Fucking beltin' album. Mavers wasn't apparently happy with how it was produced, and fails to acknowledge it to some extent, but its one of them albums that you can listen to 4 times through at once and not get bored of it.
Defo worth a listen, espesh if you have only ever heard "There She Goes"

i wholeheartedly agree with you. i came across this gem about 6 months ago and i still find the time to listen to it regularly aye i know, im unsure what mavers was after with this album, but i think the production is brilliant. every song is a classic, looking glass is mind blowing, the last few minutes is like nawt iv ever heard before, its mental son of a gun

"Do you remember that time I raised my voice because you said you had never ever heard of The La's"
There's a new version of The La's - The La's coming out on Monday:
"The La's are one of the most influential bands of modern times, despite their modest output of one album and a handful of singles.
Alongside the original album, there are 6 previously unreleased session recordings, including 'That'll be The Day', the Buddy Holly cover they recorded for BBC2's The Late Show. CD2 gathers together material that tells the story of the lengthy and convoluted recording process that preceded the release of the album as the band moved from one producer to the next in search of an elusive sound that never quite materialised.
Most of the material on CD2 has never been released before and includes the Mike Hedges sessions, the only producer that they recorded the whole album for.
This is a definitive presentation of a classic album and will be beautifully packaged in artwork redesigned by the band's original artwork designer, Simon Ryan. There is an extensive essay containing exclusive interviews with some of the key people in the story, and never seen before artwork."

I saw this reviewed in Q and they raved about it, I can't wait....
Dunno if its such a bad thing that Lee Mather's is off his tits because I don't know if they could ever do anything as near as good as that.
Its better than any Beatles album and its better than Defiantly Maybe.
The only reason in never wins anything is because there not commercial enough.

Ha ha I've found a thread where Ant hasn't posted about The La's I'm trying to get the lad to stop posting so much around the forum ;D come on Ant we all know how good of an album it was and it's great that you found them through listening to The Courteeners but get a grip! Seriously though, I love you passion mate, I'm exactly the same with the Roses!! Can't believe I once sold my entire 7inch collection but I was young then & a starving student ;D The thing is all the cash went on beer!! What a tw*t! I saw that you posted about having the entire La's collection, just CD's? or have you got the vinyl, cassettes etc too? A good site for 'old indie' is Encore Records, have a varied amount of bands and sometimes some rare shit, don't know if their prices are good but the condition of the records and that are usually top notch... Here's what they have by The La'sMay help??? Cheers

I had that avator ste, changed it yesterday, I'll put it back now. Hope it doesn't become a legend like the Tux avator, I couldn't do with the publicity!
Just a recommendation, I was on the la's forum before, and they have so many great demos and stuff. I can see what Lee was after when I hear the kitchen tape and the likes, dead raw sound, not taking anything away from the album but from what Lee says I know what he was after, and some of these demos are brilliant, so much heart in them, and they sound phenomenal! One particular demo called 'was it something I said' is above anything I've heard by them, brilliant song. 'When the might become the meekest' and 'Jumping Jack Flash' are top tunes aswell, certainly wouldn't be out of place on the album.

Really, cheers upton, don't I look like a dick. I've never heard anything by rolling stones, never realy think about them, so i just presumed it was a La's song when I heard it on a demo I downloaded. Don't I feel stupid ey, but like I said, I don't do Rolling Stones so you can excuse me.
I enjoyed it actually, even though I've just found out it's a cover, good song. They do a good cover of 'That'll be the Day' by buddy holly, and 'My generation'.
Thanks for telling me Upton, save me from further embaressment!
