Love the 'cal's rant' part. I could help with the lyrics meanings thingy, I'm dead good at understanding MOST songs, I'm sure alot of us will know them but I can definitely help on that one if need be. As for the history thing, first and formost I love the comicstrip idea, maybe one of the guys who does the artwork can help on the drawing, I actually know a few links from a few lears ago about Liam's early solo stuff going around town and that, so I can send you them links ASAP if you want Darren, I know 3 or 4 old pages about the history.

I lost all my links a while back after a firefox upgrade; I had spent ages gathering every last bit of info when I first started S&C

Some of the history can be gained from interviews and that but what about childhood etc?

Maybe you can work with Fergal on the lyrics/meanings? cos I know he's dead interested in that part, I'm more than happy for both of you to do it - Have a chat with him

The comic strip/history thing has already been mentioned to my 'art team' and I have sent them the brief/design pack for the article today, so I'm sure one of them will be able to come up with what I'm after.

Thanks to Dec (kokainekinney) who is more than happy to help with the Band History (Story/history/family tree - haven't got a title for it yet).
So he'll be helping me gather all the information about the band to give to the artist (tba) to do the comic strip kind-of-thing

Hello all, I've not been around the place properly for a few days now!

It's all down to the research I'm doing for the fanzine though, I've been trying to unearth new information / any material that will help towards "The Story of The Courteeners".

I'm sick of saying History/Story/Band family tree every time so I'm using the working title

I don't even think I've touched the sides yet but it's coming along nicely - so much from 2008 and 2007 is building up but 2006 and before is proving scarce for info (just like the gigography).

So I'm going ahead with the new thread in 'General Chat' to try and find more info, it's Help me with the History for the Fanzine.

Hopefully that will get you lot working for me ;D

I have been working out other stuff like what articles to put in the first issue and how it will be all put together, which has been helping it move along in the background - I will post more about this soon

With the "Story" starting to take shape out of this thread here is an over view of other ideas; these may have been mentioned before but we need to start to look at what we want in the first issue & who would like a piece of the fanzine

Definitely

• "The Story of The Courteeners" (history/formation of the band)
• "Tour Special" (Gig reviews/interviews/photos/fans view/support bands)
• "Song Book" / Play with or like The Courteeners (Lyrics/tab/chords/song meaning)
• "No Musical Education" / Cal's Rant (if he's still up for it)
• "God bless the band they're doing all they can" / News (Calender/Diary kind of thing with a round-up of the courteeners happenings)

Maybe

• "Backstage with The Courteeners" / Band Interview (don't know but we will try to get one; this could be related to the 'tour special' or be separate regular article??
• "These types of relationships never last" / Fans story (when they met the band/member)
• In the forum (what's being going on the boards, things of interest/controversy)
• Band release/Classic review (the review panel could review the bands latest release & then compare to releases from say 10/20 years ago?? or even from modern bands of similar style?? Maybe even include the discography but not just the everyday list - I'll have a think about this one as there are a lot of possibilities of have this could be done )
• Future gigs (a preview of forthcoming gigs??)
• Fans pictures (could be attached to the fans story & have a page dedicated to fans pictures with the band??)
• Fans Art (again this could be in the 'fans pages' and feature any sketches/drawings/paintings from you lot??)
• Web Watch (this could be incorporated with 'news' and 'in the forum' in the earlier pages and feature what being said about the band etc)
• Competition (it wouldn't be a fanzine without a compo now would it?)
• Advertisements (a sore point! However if suitable & related companies were targeted then they would fit in with the fanzine & maybe we could generate a bit of cash for the fanzines future. Things like record shops e.g. the recordstore, official merch store e.g. slipstream (they owe us one ), digital DL's??, tour/gig dates, labels e.g. maybe loog/polydor or even UTC Records ;D

I thought I'd let you know I've got a novelty item planned for the fanzine - I'm sure you will love it, I'm keeping it under my hat so you'll have to wait and see

I have finally got around to finishing the letter to Liam asking him to help with a few things, like the "Songbook", the history of the band and that & hopefully an interview about the tour.

Fergal has suggested when is the best time to post this so I'll be on the war path to get Liam's attention very shortly ;D

Also I've been looking into the CD Boxset for the fanzine but I'll post more about this in it's own thread soon

Fanzine Update...

I have sorted out the format for the tour special, so now I can get onto putting it all together but I need more resources and material from the tour!
So I'll be carrying on scouring the internet!!

Things are taking shape on my computer and I think you'll like how I'm doing the tour dates, well I'm hoping you do!

The Novelty item will be a set of four and will be issued over the first 4 issues - The prototype is nearly finished and I can't wait to see it made up...

Ant & the lads are in the process of picking the poems for the appearance of 'Poets Corner' in the fanzine - there doing a great job - thanks

I though some of you would like to submit your artwork on the band for the fans section in the fanzine - anything at all from paintings, drawings, sketches, pop art etc

Fanzine Update...

Format.

The fanzine format is now decided...
It will be A5 wire bound, sorry but I just couldn't resist to have it a little different! I know stapling is easy to do but this way a lot more can be achieved & it's still keeping with DIY as I'll be binding and printing the lot!

Photos.

I'm afraid it just won't be possible to include a one-off gig photo with the first issue - just not enough photos of quality/size to make into actual photos.
There will be plenty of photos printed though.

In fact, I'm in the process of gaining permission to use photos from the gig & all-round photographer Dean Sherwood!!

He photographed the band at Sheffield, Hull & Leeds.

Also I cheekily asked if I could do a little article about him, with a few questions - he agreed which I was very grateful because he's a very busy man.

So I've sent him a handful of Q's which I hope aren't too bad; I'm not much of a writer that's why I'm always asking you lot for help ;D


Tour Special.

After exhausting all sources to find material from the tour; which still isn't enough, I'm continuing putting it all together with the designing and that.

I'll be posting in the Review Submissions for more support for your gig reviews - haha be warned!

The layouts are coming along well but without content it won't be much; as soon as I've got all the dates done I'll know what else is needed.
So I'll come back at the weekend begging for your help

General stuff...

I think we'll have to start thinking about Quantity - maybe a new thread with a poll to show interest in 'buying' it??

Another thought... cost!! & when I say 'buying', with all the problems the t-shirt caused and with a lot of suggestions on how to overcome the merch issue, I think if it had 'no price' & then had a contribution to the forum, then surely that wouldn't make it an issue??

I'm waiting for Liam to respond to my second message about the handwritten lyrics/interview... come on Liam

So overall, still a lot to do and probably my fault other things aren't getting done but I promise to contact the people who have offered their help by the weekend - I've just got to get every thing in order to send to you.

If you ask me if it'll be out before Christmas, then at the moment it's "I don't know", sorry but I just don't...
