I think we will get their best album to date. Falcon was great but there was some real lyrical shitheaps in there and he will learn

I can't really see them returning to the sound of St. Jude, but can't see them returning to the sound of Falcon either. It needs to feel like less of a solo effort next time around though.

I don't get what you're on about either Sean, in what way was it a solo effort?
Also, by saying 'lyrical shitheaps'....don't you think you are being harsh?
I think you both need to get out to some gigs and get a feel for it, rather than sitting on your computers complaining.

The drums and guitars didn't really jump out at you or sound like you know the rest of the band are there. It sounds a bit like it could've been any backing band playing it I guess. And I get to as many gigs as I can thanks, I've already been to 10 this year and I've got 4 more booked plus a festival. No need for comments like that.

lol plenty of gigs for me too, just think there are few examples that make me cringe, as much as there are brilliant examples. whats worse dec? commenting on a band you love or having a pop at someone?
also i know what sean means, it could quite easily be Liam Fray in the same way its just Jamie T

I have no idea what direction they will head in, Falcon nicely surprised me so lets see.
There was one or two lyrics I wasn't keen on, "f*ck right off into the middle of the sky" for example, but on the whole Liams lyrics always impress me, sure we can all relate to many of them.
On the backin thing. Essentially, Campbell is no Neil Mavers or Reni, he is a limited drummer, and on the whole plays relitively simple rhythms, but the odd beat like the middle 8 on Sycophant was different, easy maybe but different. Liam and Conan are both capable guitarists obviously, particularly Liam, he's obviously got alot of talent and could probably just play anything that came to him, maybe a few more solos? But generally we don't get that from Courteeners, they aren't the type of band that have songs written around big solos. So as I say, Campbell is only a limited musician so can't be expecting really expansive beats from him. THough Lee Mavers was a better drummer than Neil Mavers (who was fucking immensely telented), so maybe Liam is a good drummer? And if he wants something complex he may play it.
No need for the jibes either surely? They are entitled to opinions on peoples music, whatever it be, we aren't all going to agree.

In regards to the above comment...I’ve never understood people who can’t play instruments (and if you can, probably not very well) criticising a decent musician(s). It’s one thing analysing the album, but to class Campbell as a ‘limited musician’ is ridiculous. Don’t forget he couldn’t play the drums before he joined Courteeners, so he’s grown massively as a musician.
As for the comments about ‘a solo effort’ – you should be a bit more informed about what goes into the album before you come out with remarks like that.

No, he even admits he is a limited drummer, so it was a very fair comment, sure many would agree. It's not a bad think, not every song has to have fools gold beats to them, some great drum beats and rhythm sections make great songs, but Courteeners songs have all instruments come together in unison into some fucking good songs. For the record I can play guitar to a very good standard, as can 'dontask', hardly Liam Fray but can play well. It's irrelevant anyway.

I agree, I looked at Ant's comment before with embarassment, bit sad I think. Songs is what matters, not ability, or bringing it down to Lee Mavers or what have you. I think certain people on here need to have a think that it isn't just all about Liam Fray and that a band is a band otherwise it cannot exist, and perhaps get some perspective on things. Sad really

could the kinney brothers be more condescending?
I love the courteeners but i have no illusions of perfection. I dont with any band. I also agree with Fergals comment that its the songs what matters not the ability. However I think that Liam Fray is capable of much better than "I need to know if you want to and I need to know if you will". He expects the best of himself and so do I.

Good music is rarely if ever, about technical ability. Good ideas mixed with passion is a lot harder to find than a fantastic technical musician (no diss to any session players)
As for the Liam solo sounding point, am I right in thinking the Liam was the only band member present at the mixing? Could be people have picked up on this whilst listening.
Hopes the 3rd LP will be a more guitar based affair, no need for whistles and bells just the 4 guys.
