Expectations?

the support slot for morrisey in the U.S & the second album should really see the band take off now, hopefully do all the festivals again & in a more prominent slot.

i think your taking it a bit too far there antoine. maybe an album that goes gold a bit quicker, maybe a few 7-8pm slots at festivals.....and the america stuff should happen!

I think that might be a little ambitious, I know that Courteeners have never shyed away from ambition but not unrealistically so. There's only 2 or 3 months til festival line ups start coming out, and I can't see Michael Eavis suddenly realising that the Courteeners are the best bet for the headline slot between now and March. They should do very well in America though, despite what moron journalists might say a lot of the music doesn't alienate people without a knowledge of Manchester or the UK in the same way that Arctic Monkeys debut did (thus why their 2nd album did a lot better), and the US Morrissey fan base already seem to be very happy at the prospect of Courteeners support slots.
I were reading that he's added 3 more smaller dates to the US tour? Anyone know awt about whether Courteeners are supporting on these?

As far as I can remember St Jude sold really well. It wasn't in the top five for long (I think it dropped out of the top 5 after a week ) But it was a good start. The second album should sell more, I still think the Courteeners necessarily didn't really get the respect from the music industry they deserve for a debut that didn't follow the fashionable route of say an arctic monkeys or enemy rip off. I just hope the band can win new fans along the way. As for America yeah they wont alienate them selfs from them over the pond BUT there too lazy to get it Americans I think. (as a rule not all of them before anyone starts) The best thing for the teeners would be get the support slots with Moz in britan and get the famous Friday night DUSK slot at Glasto. (Apparently the lucky slot) and a support slot with the Gallaghers at Heaton Park (INSTEAD OF THAT LITTLE thingy CLARKE) I just want a bit more from the next album than I got from St Jude, maybe listening to the deoms and stuff wrecked it a bit. I already knew most of the songs and i didnt find the finished album as good.....but thats another thread, thats been coverd loads!!!

im very unsure as to how well they will do in america to be honest, but im sure they'll find a fanbase with the morrissey fans. dont know whether to expect a new album til 2010 or not but either way im sure it will be solid. few festivals im sure, uk tour late 09 as was said.
think 2010 might be bigger for them.

I always feel like the america thing is a double edged sword - it's great for them to get recognition over there but means they're here less - I saw them 7 times last year......want to top it!!!
As for 2009 I'm looking forward to another album - more songs now I (finally) have an ipod I can download more...
Also hoping for a decent slot in NME tent at leeds so I don't have to haul my ass to V again - and as it's my first year at Glasto obviously hoping for some more of the magic of last year's set.
Other than that - introducing as many ppl as possilbe to the courteeners - have two converts who now love them, boyfriend who is dying to see them and a friend who is one the fence....she was the same with the cribs till I took her to see them live so she knows I know best!!!

Maybe I went a little far, but it's what I'd want out of them, but we don't want to push them. If I get a little more out of a new album then I will be extremely satisfied.

As for America yeah they wont alienate them selfs from them over the pond BUT there too lazy to get it Americans I think. (as a rule not all of them before anyone starts) fair enough. americans seem to have a hard time adopting british bands that sing in their regional accents for some reason. I think the courteeners could do OK here, but i'm not expecting coldplay/u2 like success off of st. jude. i am looking forward to april though: april 6th: morrissey/courteeners april 7th: glasvegas unfortunately there is not a concert worth going to between now and then.

America is definitely the big one, the exposure from supporting Moz can only be a good thing, even if they 'don't get it', I'm sure they will enjoy the songs. I just can't concentrate any more... I'm off
