sounds very good, we gonna be the new and much more improved NME, without the ludicrist reviews and bias toss pots running it.

Ha ha, just seen your PM fastfuse, very strange cos I had just been reading all the comments on this thread so far and working on the summary thing So here's the main points to take into consideration: 1. Not solely about The Courteeners, include other bands 2. Open submissions from members I thought everyone knew this would be an S&C/The Courteeners publication, maybe like a fanclub if you like but I do like kyle's ideas about support acts, manchester bands, similar bands - maybe also have the bands favourites too? So it could certainly have other bands but not to a great extent, maybe a 80/20 split in content? If you read the opening post of this thread then you'll know there was supposed to be another publication that was going to be slipped into the NME and that was going to be about all other stuff I was thinking about a quarterly release for this, so it would be a year subscription which would get you 4 copies a year, something extra special for when you subscribe, this could enable a lot of releases of CD's, badges, merch as extras for the issues, maybe evn get some vinyl pressed Maybe the next CD project could be the gift with the years subs and each issue would be a new CD for the boxset. 3 months should be plently of time to gather everything together and get the printing/packaging/designs complete, it should also give enough info on the band.
That's a few more of my ideas, heres the one's from you lot I like so far: Lyric Meanings - a break down of the songs A family (band) Tree - the formation of the band Fans Pictures - Story of how they met etc Cal's rant about what's doing his head in ;D So then...I would like this to be very Courteeners but I'm very willing to let other bands be included. So we need to determine the criteria for other bands (like manchester, releated bands, support) and will the content be random through the publication or be a separate bit altogether. Support bands reviews and articles could be mixed with gig reviews on The Courteeners, could make it a bit special and try and get interviews with them all and include this too, oh yeah the gig bit could really be evolved into something very different indeed. Same as the Releases, these could be reviewed by the panel and then maybe a few other interesting releases from the kind of bands that will be in the criteria, maybe classic reviews like Fergal mentioned. So we need to sort this out and then we'll be able to work out what articles/columns/sections/features etc we will do Thanks for offering...Great to see a load of offers to help with this, keep helping with me in this thread with your ideas and comments and we'll definatly have the right staff for the job

That lyric meaning bit sounds good, I love going about telling people what songs mean and that, makes me sound dead clever. The idea of classic reviews is good, like every issue we could have an article on an all time great band, it could be like a series of them and the person writing could give their like ultimatum on how great they were.

After mentioning what could be done with the gig review and the inclution of other bands in the publication I continued to develop my idea and came up with this: It would be a triple page review of all the bands in a kind-of 'Best Gig', this would include a main review of The Courteeners and a smaller section dedicated to the Support act(s). FOLDEDMain Heading/dates etcAs it suggests, the main heading logo of whatever it'll be called, with the date, times, venue - with credits to reviewers/photographer. Set ListThis could be a mini reproduction of the actual setlist and then stuck to the page or something. Fan CommentsCould get a fan(s) opinion before and after the gig to see weather they were changed their views. Fold Over PageThis could either be the tour dates advert or venue poster/flyer for the date. OPENED OUTGig PhotoIt would be great to get an actual developed photograph, maybe each copy could have a different photo so everyone would have a one off in their issue. It could be inserted in a protective sleeve that is in some way applied to the page. This would need S&C to actually work with an existing gig photographer or rely on a member to take a lot of photos. I wonder how hard it is to get permission to take photos during the gigs - maybe if were a publication or whatever we'll find it easier to have permission?? Main ReviewObviously the main review of The Courteeners performance etc. This could be where the review panel steps in or maybe it could be other members contributions?? Other Press about gigThis could be a snippet from another source about the gig, would be a ripped out scrap from a newspaper or magazine rather than just text. Support Act ReviewDepending on how many support acts and how much room this will have, this section would have the obvious gig review but could also have a biography or profile on the band and maybe their stand out songs from the gig.
So that's my latest idea for what could easily be a regular feature, I'll get more into this as other ideas pop-up or are suggested. I'll have to work on the tour flyer for a while so I'm leaving this in your hands for the rest of the day

looks quality, it's dead dead simple but it'll be so effective, especially with the tour poster type thing in it.

I do agree with what Liam says to a certain extent, it'll definately keep the homemade/diy flavour because I'll be doing most of the design and production However I do want it to have that special feel to it and bit of polishing in places. I think the Review pages could have that all-in-one! The ripped out tour ad, setlist and one off photo - this making it very diy and the photo making it that much special to the individual, with all the reviews and graphics to finish the effect Please come forth with your ideas, suggestions and comments, they will help out no end

the photocopied look and feel. cant go wrong. Yeah like it - so the original would be the fancy one with all the stick-ins and then photocopy that? OR Have certain pages in colour with the fancy bits but still have original things like clippings etc s o they would look great b/w photcopied. Nice one Cal you may have found the format

I won 3 issues of 'Ride On', probably the best of the Roses fanzines, it only ran for 4 issues but I hope it's how I remember ;D Anyway, gonna look about and see the competition (well, there won't be any - who else who do a Courteeners publication - certainly not slipstream ) but you know what I mean. I don't know if anyone else has done what I mentioned our Gig Review should be like - with stick in's and that

Still think you can't go wrong with the scrapbook look, you know like what Liam said. What do you mean by stick-ins exactly??
