Thom Yorkes is a talented guy, they all are!! But I think you have to think far to much with there stuff. It should grab you good music......it's just to hard going for me and he always looks pissed off, and not even in a rock n roll way. The internet idea was good for rainbows or whatever its called, hopefully more bands will do the same yeh, i know the charlatans are doing a similar thing. I there releasing there album for free to download ;D

yeah, i liked the bends and OK computar, even the debut was quite good, but their ideas and principles, the way they just amble on stage like they dont wanna be there, lack of relationship with the fans, all of that mentality they have, its not what musics about, they shouldnt be there at all

I there releasing there album for free to download ;D well, a lot of that was to do with the fact that nobody was really interested in giving the charlatans a record deal - them and the Dirty Pretty Things are both managed by Alan McGee and it's quite enlightening that McGee advised the DPT *against* releasing their new album in the same way as radiohead but supposedly advised the charlatans to do it. Their album is gonna be totally free though and they're supposedly going to make the money up on ticket sales and merchandise. I reckon McGee's using the charlatans as a little 'experiment' to see how it goes.

But CAN YOU make as much touring as you could with a good record?? Yes there's t-shirt sales and all that other tat that comes with a gig. But unless you going to do a Led Zeppelin and charge your loyal fans £50 or above a ticket I can't see it working out. ALSO I cant see how a song writer can write and arrange these songs maybe have some sleepless nights and struggle like f**k for it to be given away for now't? It's not about selling out by wanting your money for the hours/graft/grief you put in!!!

yeah, alan mcgee's a clever guy and its clear hes though he'll use one of the acts that he may consider to be less on peak than other of his bands and use them as guinea pigs, see if it does manage to generate free publicity and already its looking like the charlatans are gunna come out of it pretty bad which i think is a shame. plus, if you wanna get an album for free, you always can do, but also if an album is good enough people will always buy it

'g' don't you think that the Charlatans could already miss out on alot of money by doing that? Look at everyone on this forum getting excited about the courteeners album......after 4 weeks of it being out we'll all be talking about something else, the next single or the next album!!! The initial excitement over a Charlatans album will be gone by the time you can walk in to HMV (if there are any still open) and buy it. No disrespect to them lads because they have done it all......But there not as big as they were 5 -10 years ago. Who's going to buy it then

maybe thats why mcgee used charlatans to pilot that scheme - if it failed they wouldnt have THAT much to loose (compared to a newer band or a currently more succesful band) but if it went well it'd be some much needed publicity for them
maybe its working already, i mean we're all talking about it arent we?

The Charlatans have announced their tenth studio album, ‘You Cross My Path’, will be available to download for free from the band’s official website and Xfm.co.uk from March 3.
The album will then get a physical CD and vinyl release, in 33 countries, on May 19 through Cooking Vinyl.
This will include a strictly limited deluxe edition vinyl 45’s box set of the LP
I knicked this off NME.COM, lets see what happens eh??

i can see it being a flop. not trying to be harsh but theyre not exactly making headlines are they? the average price people paid for Radioheads shite wasnt exactly much and i can see this being A LOT worse than that, money wise. Mcgee needs to get his head out of his arse and try to make the album sell properly not using some badly thought out plan.
