I pretty much agree with fastfuse, the americans are the main culprits, with their own bands and alot of great english bands, and he has hit the nail on the head saying that Arctic Monkeys got it easy, not realy easy, but in comparison to so many bands like Elbow who have put so many years into they have had it really easy. Though I do think that they made good timing, in 2005 when they came about, indie music was on a BIG high, so it was spot on timing, whereas Elbow, didn't come around at a good time, since they are so different to alot of bands, they are original.

Aye, I've always said that if Courteeners came about when Arctic Monkeys did, and Arctic Monkeys never existed, Courteeners would be absoloutely massive. Bigger than Arctic Monkeys. Easy

Spot on, the courteeners are a better band than the arctic monkeys IMO, and better than any other modern british indie band, but they came along alot later thn the rest and over the last 2 years the scene has calmed down a little. Though it can only be good if they have to work twice as hard as the arctic monkeys to et massive, just shows that they fully deserve it.

Dunno about The Courteeners being better than The Arctic Monkeys.....Hes a outstanding song writer Alex Turner.....3 Quality albums in as many years, theres not many people who can do that.
I hope Liam gets some more credit of the back of the next Courteeners album....He's still largely ignored by everyone which I thinks complete dog shite!!

He is my favourite song writer around at the moment, but his genuine talent was never mentioned on the back of the last album, it was either, 'oh it's an OK album' or 'its crap'. No mention for his class.

well yeah and I think its down to the fact there a manc band... they haven't forgiven Manchester for oasis yet.
But when the next fucking coldplay albums out there bound to be noshing them off.....WANK!

Oh, yeh, apparently Chris Martin is some genius of his generation, but to be honest Coldplay are nothing more than amatures, they are possibly the most overrated and overplayed band of the past 10 years, as you say, gash, bland, and plain old boring. And since they are from london with a good upbringing they are better than everthing else around. You can't judge a band on where they are from, it's just fucking stereotypical.

its abit over zealous to say the courteeners are better than arctic monkeys, and by abit, i mean very, i love the lads but they havent written anything that matches a certain romance, do me a favour.
love it if the new album changed my mind.

It's just a matter of personal opinion, I am not a huge Arctic Monkeys fan, but I am a huge Courteeners fan, so Liam Fray is my faviourite songwriter out of the 2, it's not the kind of thing that you can measure, just personal preference.

hard to compare Liam to Turner at the moment, courteeners have had one album where as artics have had two with a new one out soon and the last shadow puppets
turner has done more so will have to see if the courteeners can match it or hopefully do better
