I was delving deep into some american reviews of a few albums, 'the queen is dead', 'the stone roses' to name a few, and it really made me wonder why there has been so many unappreciated bands, namely in the past 30 years.
But what I would have thought to be an interesting topic would be to name who we think have been the most unappreciated bands/ artists of the last 10 years. Who has really changed music in the past 10 years but has failed to be mentioned. Primarily americans in their country of birth.
What do you think explains wh the americans sem to ck decent taste in their own great rock bands???

I would answer the full question but you went a bit wayward at the end.
I don't think that there has been any unappreciated bands really, not in this country, but I know what you are saying about the american taste.

elbow are a massive example, the thing is to really contribute to music you kinda have to move it forward but alot of people dont like change with music. thats why it happens. that and while we may say the stone roses were underappreciated, someone else might equally say they were gash.

Almost every band I'm into are unappreciated, The Stone Roses, The La's, The Strokes and even the smiths are, and all of these 4 have changed music in their own way.

Are the Stone Roses, the La's, the Strokes and the Smiths underappreciated? I'm big fans of all 4, but they all (apart from perhaps the La's) get a lot of praise to this day and are generally accredited to having wrote great albums and great songs etc. Yes, the general mass public at large doesnt appreciate them in the same way music fans do, but I don't think that can ever ever be expected.

Its a fickle business music, I think were worst for it in this country.
The arctic monkeys are a great band, but they got it all handed to them on a silver platter really. Yes they gigged there arses off and would give away cds at gigs but the hype surrounding them was outrageous considering they hadn't even released a record, there a f**k**g brilliant little band but when you look at elbow they really had to graft for what there getting now. There next album will get universally panned because knowing what there like (and owning there previous offerings) it will sound different to TSSK, and journalists wont like it.
So many quality bands and song writers still get over looked by everyone apart from a select group of switched on people (US!!) and the only time I think there ever going to get any sort of recognition is when there dead. There are so many talented musicians past and present who never get a f**k**g mention in any national press. I think its f**k**g bollocks.
Americans are worse, KOL over looked because they don't wear stills and makeup Sea Sick Steve alright he's a redneck and about 60 but he's a great song writer if your in to that kind of thing and the fleet foxes aare going to be a great band...There wasted over there

arctic monkeys are class but i dont think id have guessed that solely off the first album, the first time i sat up and really took notice of turner as a writer was when i heard do me a favour, then the last shadow puppets outing blew me away. so some good coems from it sometimes, even with elbow its probably a good thing that they werent accepted instantly or they might have set about making albums for the masses rather than doing their own thing, which i think they will continue to do.
as for kings of leon, i was never a big fan but some of the older tracks are class and the new album is cack, wish they were still overlooked.

Do you believe the hype surrounding the Arctic Monkeys was unjust then fastfuse? Regarding Elbow, they have a very distinct style. Their offerings are varied but you can tell an elbow song a mile off. Pick an elbow song at random and it would fit easily in any one of their four albums and not be out of place? I dont think new offerings from them will be any different from the Seldom Seen Kid. They will stay true to the format that has done so well for them throughout.
