Hope I grabbed your attention with the capitals I got out of bed this morning at what was a crazy time, 8am, to hear the new U2 single, titled 'Get Your Boots On'. Did anyone else hear it, I know full well that I am of the limited number of U2 fans on the forum so I thought I'd be lucky to get a positive reaction from many of you. My honest opinion is that it would sound good on Achtung Baby, real grungy rock tune, which is great to hear from them considering they haven't written many quality tunes since the early 90's. Quality riff from edge as ever, and it sounds to me like a return to form, for what could well be a final album. I had a CD ready in my stereo to record it off the radio and I did everything right apart from forgetting to press record such was the anticipation. So, did anyone think good of it, are any of you going to be getting the mew album??

not their best but it was never gonna be, still better than most of the shit today guitar music or not. quite like it. the riff is cool, there'll be alot of people shouting overproduction but u2 always were its just how they are.

I read someone saying that it's good for a bunch of 50 year old blokes to be keeping with the times, it is nice to see them staying modern, alot of older bands would just run out of ideas.
I can't wait for the album, the reviews are brilliant, and funnily enough, none that I have read mention Get Your Boots On as one of the best tunes on it, though it is great for a single.
I may well have to do an Eric Cartman and freeze myself until it is released....

Despite the fact I have all other 11 albums, I must admit that bar the odd tune it has all been average after Achtung Baby, but since this is more than likely a final album, I have confidence in them to produce, they'll have to do something special to get anything close to Achtung Baby but I have faith, and I hope they prove all doubters wrong, and I'm sure you would all love to be proved wrong.

dude oasis are your favourite band and you critisize u2 for being samey?
i agree theres been alot of bland since achtung but tbh i really rate vertigo, sometimes you cant make it on your own, original of the species and beautiful day is stunning.

original of the species is one of my fave U2 tunes, brilliant. Did you mean me dontask about the samey thing?? Because I didn't mean that, in contrast, an album like Pop is far more techno and dancey than something like ATYCLB, it's all different, but not so much specatacular. I think Discoteque is a great tune, Vertigo is probably the first true rock and roll tune they made and it's class, Beautiful day, Original of the Species, Miracle Drug, just to name a few. But what I meant is that since Achtung Baby, no albums have been full of class, because Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are truly classy albums, with plenty of tunes to make great singles and classics, and we need that of No Line On The Horizon, every great band has to go out with a bang, we can't be dissapointed.

Dig Out Your Soul sounds nothing like Morning Glory, Be Here Now sounds nothing like Dont Believe The Truth, Standing on The Shoulder of Giants (admittedly shite) sounds nothing like Definitely Maybe.........Are you going to tell me they sound like the Beatles too?
In my opinon they can be guilty of shite albums but apart from the first two (which I might add everyone gets hard over) they dont sound similar. The band line up changes every week!!!!!!!

the only major difference i see (albeit through more casual listening as im not really a fan) is with the dig out your soul album. but if i was quick to judge then fair enough but i wouldnt brand u2 with the repetitive stick.

I agree with Ian to an extent, both first two albums sound nothing alike, and admittedly, I get a little over exited about the second album with all the big tunes in it.
I think that U2 were samey with 'Boy' 'October' and 'The Unforgettable Fire', but in a good way, despite 'October' being the weakest of all 11 albums it still has similarities to the other 2. But this works, because 'Boy' and 'The Unforgettable Fire' are amazing albums, so it's not all bad being samey, but U2 haven't been samey since the above albums, I think what Ian meant when he said it was more of the same was that he thought it would be modest along with alot of past 15 yrs work. Which I, in turn, disagree with, as stated above. The new album will be different, and will be amazing.......... I hope.
