New album out early January, and I don't know about anyone else but I'm proper excited! They're unashamedly pop but frankly do it very very well and it's still intelligant and not gimmicky, them two albums are indie masterpieces in my opinion, the influence of them is bigger than people think and all. Top live band and all. Any thoughts?

Yeah they came along around the same time as The Libertines and have stuck through it, like you say Fergal the amount they put in for music is amazing!
I'm not a great fan like but I bought a few of their singles.
Really like the songs Take Me Out & This Fire though, think it's called This Fire??
Didn't they start a label for bands north of the border?

Coming from the Fratellis fan ;D I can't see whats gimmicky about them personally, each to their own like, but nah I think they've kept themselves away from all that, their single and album artwork is always class as well, and videos, I know it dunt matter like but its always mega

fratellis are gimmicky, i wasnt saying it to insult them...you should have drew upon the power of alphabeat though mate.
and videos do matter. alot of the time it can make or more often ruin a song. ill never like time to pretend by MGMT just cus of the video. perhaps the shitness doesnt help.

aye. im not saying it matters to quality of music or ewt. but if i see a video with a decent song, n the video does my head in, it can put me off the song. a good example of a song that did this n i now like is a-punk by vampire weekend.

The videos do matter what the f**k? They matter but not very much. They're good for pulling in the punters and getting people's attention but that's about it for me, there's many a great song with a shit video and it's not made a difference....though alternatively theres sadly many a shit song that has got where it is by a great video

Well Mr. Campbell is spot on. Franz Ferdinand are a poor band. Compare them to The Smiths. There is no one thing i could point out that stands out. Whereas, The Smiths, Stone Roses, The Libertines, The Beatles all have distinguishing qualities. Don't get me started on The Fratellis. GET OFF THE BAND WAGON.

if we only liked music like the smiths and the libertines then we'd all get very bored after a while. the fratellis are not brilliant but they are good at what they do, whether you like it or not its catchy.
as for them 4 bands, what do they have in common? none are around anymore. brilliant. in their day.

Yeah but it doesn't mean we have to like sh*t bands. Why have standards any less than top quality? Why settle for bands who are "alright" and "catchy" or "alright at what they do", settle for the very best Stand up for standards or something like that On that note...has anyone heard the Wombats Christmas single? Now that should be made illegal to broadcast

i agree with the wombats christmas single
however standards are subjective and alot of people love the fratellis and are different to the above (not me). i think that muse are brilliant and you lot dont so that shows that.
what im tryin to say is, sometimes an average band can catch someones attention, i like the fratellis, i like how they havent writtten a song that is sad yet.

Aye, its all subjective really I suppose. I respect Muse though, Matt Bellamy's got shitloads of young 'uns into playing guitar which is never a bad thing at all, but the Fratellis do absoloutely nothing for me. I couldn't really settle for liking an average gimmicky happy clappy band, this sounds proper knobheaded like, but I dunno. That's why I like the Courteeners so much, absoloute no nonsense, same with the Cribs, the Coral, and the older bands I love like the Clash, the Jam, the Smiths, the Stone Roses...bands who took no nonsense
