I'm not personally a fan of "official" stuff (I am a difficult b*st*rd aren't I) but then again Darren et al deserves credit for the top work they put in. Trouble is with officialising the forums would be perhaps mean that they become a bit over sanitised and theres also issues to do with what the management of the band can and cannot allow to appear on the website for legal reasons. The last thing The Courteeners want is a lawsuit from Oasis whacking them for millions of pounds because some of the views expressed on the forums insinuate that Oasis are cack . And seeing as Liam has already endorsed it and given its his backing - I'd tend to go with what antoine said - the forum already is official. Maybe a permanent link from the myspace and the official site would be jolly nice...

I do and I don't. Darren deserves credit for everything he does, but would the forum becoming official just lessen his role and discredit the hard work that he, and also a lot of us, on this forum have done? I think that a permant link from the myspace and the official site would be the best way, I also reckon S and C will be linked to the next Courteeners email. I think that if officials got into the forum it'd neauter it a bit, we're already quite a "nice" forum but we're also opinionated and, although nobody can sue you for your opinions particularly on music, people could think the opinions displayed on here are the opinions of the band and it could get messy. Plus any references to drugs and the band, not saying anything but its a patchy subject with other bands on other forums and it can result in deleted posts and all, that, and we all want to be able to say what we want and discuss the lyrics as in depth as we can, and if drugs references are a part of that then so be it, not saying that there are many though. The whole "243" incident just got me thinking, thats all. But the forum does deserve credit from the band's myspace and website and things like that, and its good promotion indeed. The foals forum is being officialised soon and a mate of mine whos on there is saying that a lot on there are getting fairly up in arms about the changes in with which this will bring. We're a republic us lot!

i cant see there being much trouble really, "The views and opinions on Snorting and Cavorting do not reflect those of The Courteeners" thats perfect. solves that problem.
were ready for the move i think.
Darren will have full creative control and we have mods who arent dickheads.
itll be great.

and if there is a link to us on the official site and myspace, then surely that makes us official

A link from official website and from myspace would be perfect, as long as Daz still runs the place with the help of you lot then it's perfect, the only way it could be ruined would to have a load of dickeds as mods, if a couple of us wer mods rather than people we don't know then things will run smoothly. Another point is that maybe they do not want an official forum, maybe the band and label are happy with an outside forum like us as the main stay of fans.

you could be right actually. but on the topic of mods, it wouldnt change, who better than to look after a forum than people who are on the forum loads and that.
i think official is the next logical step. it would be the same as now only with far better promotion.
Darren deserves some recognition for all his great work.
OFFICIAL

He does deserve recognition and the forum is a credit to Dazzler, but what I don't see is recognition is everyone walking an official tightrope and Darren's hard work being wasted in the long run...its a risk

i recon making this forum official is a bad idea...... -the forum would change hands if it was official, which would meen a total change... -the forum would become a business instead of a fans area -a loss in independancy....every move is tracked....no criticism or anything like that (basically, a lot of deleted threads and that) -no file sharing, no links will be able to be posted for other members to access mp3's...(which could also be alright as it stops revolver wanting new members ) -no forum cd's -no forum badges from darren's 'indie kids', as this would be seen as taking business away from the bands merch department. -there will be a lot more 'forum t-shirt' situations, were management get involved with GOOD ideas. -no more darren wells, as there would be people employed to watch over us...(shame really, as darren does a great job) -moderators are usually people who stamp authority and are, usually, unliked. but with darren, we (as a forum) have well earned respect for him....and its more on a personal level, rather than a 'big man' official moderator who deletes posts and stamps their authority all over the place. this would annoy people and make this forum an unfriendly place. one last point.... we are doing fine as we are! if it isnt broke, dont fix it!

I think we should get a link from the courteeners page even tho not necerssarilly becoming official cause wikipedia gets a link and thats not official.... That way it would mean we can still have darren and co in control and that what is said isnt completelly monitored whilst still getting the recognition!

I wouldn't ever want the forum to change and if it was 'official' things would change and that would be shite
However as word gets around real fans will find out about the forum more making it the official forum between us lot.......thats what matters
Think this threads gone off on one haha

kokainekinney summed it up for me. fray recognition meams were been taken seriously without the official stamp.
