news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7784486.stmEvery year BBC questions over 100 "experts" (including Clint Boon, Rob Da Bank, Tim Jonze and Janice Long) in order to compile a list of the top 15 acts most likely to get success in 2009, and they're nearly always spot on when you look back, with a few exceptions. Things aren't looking too good though, I've had a listen to a few and I'm less than bowled over. British music is in a mess by this list: * The Big Pink * Dan Black * VV Brown * Empire of the Sun * Florence and the Machine * Frankmusik * Kid Cudi * La Roux * Lady GaGa * Little Boots * Master Shortie * Mumford & Sons * Passion Pit * The Temper Trap * White Lies Anyone got any thoughts? Or other tip offs or awt? Only one of them which I like properly from first listen and that's White Lies, when I saw them supporting Glasvegas I thought that they were top

Florence and the Machine are alright! The single Dog Days Are Over is really good! Not heard of many of the others though, might have to go and have a listen! x

Sorry to be an old man, but as far as I'm concerned none of these have a hope in hell.
I'm sticking to my guns and not listening to anything new, like Ferg says, going by the no hopes above, Britain has little to look forward to in terms of big breakthoughs. Really though, I had very little fun with new bands last year, other than the obvious, and I'm not planning on paying for a ride on 'the big pink' bus anytime soon.

I never said don't listen to anything new, nor that Britain has no hope in terms of big breakthroughs this next year, just got to look outside of the list for real talent like, I was only referring to the list when I said Britain had no hope

Oh. I knew that ferg, sorry for not saying like.
Either way, my opinion remains like a miserable b*st*rd, and unless someone plays an Acrylicesque tune to me without me having to look, like The Courteeners did, I won't be planning on routing.

Seen white lies twice this year. The thing is, I don't remember liking them or not liking them. In fact, I don’t remember anything (no, I wasn’t drunk haha) guess it means they’re just average. Florence and the Machine... I don't know, seen her earlier this year. She annoyed me big time with her high voice. And the songs they did were mostly covers. Mumford & Sons are really really good! Don’t write them off too soon. Seen them in may, blowed me away, great talent in songwriting and his voice is amazing. The others I haven't heard of..

I will have a good listen to those bands on that list I am unaware of. Got to give new bands a chance. People do seem to be either trying to be to clever with their music now or just boring. Its a hard medium to master.
White Lies are very good. I really like Interpol, and White Lies fall into that bracket. Bit like the National in a way, but not, if that makes any sense at all?!
It would be nice to have a new band to grab me like the Courteeners did two years back. Not happened since.

i hope something new comes through but you either get failed innovators or acceptable artists tht are too heavily influenced. though i am open to the idea of new music, and definitely hear enough of it, ive been lookin backwards for new stuff to listen to recently.
that oracular spectacular was widely considered a top album of 08 sums it up for me.

White Lies are a great band, what ive heard of the album (everything bar two tracks) is superb.
They are my tip to break big this year.. along with Broken Records and Twisted Wheel.
I tipped Glasvegas, Ting Tings and The Courteeners (of course) this time last year , so didnt do bad there.
Lady GaGa is American by the way, whats she doing on a British list?

To much hip hop shite, correct. And all that basshunter tat really bamboozles me, how possibly can enough people buy it to get it to number 1?? Why do we live in a democracy..

HipHop has taken a massive backward step recently. Their is far to much RnB now. Not the real RnB, but the Rhianna RnB that you can not escape from. It really is the worst kind of music.
Obviously I am sure the 3rd Kasabian and Arctics albums will be two of the Highlights of this year. they say the new Kasabian record is psychedelic which sound sinteresting. Thick as Thieves and Fire both sound amazing!!!!! Very excited.
