Those 5 minutes changed my life.

Well, we've all tried it haven't we, writing songs, I find that it isn't the writing that is hard, it's where to find the inspiration. Some of us are inspired by things we see, or things we hear, or even other peoples songs we hear. Well my story is different, don't know if any of you have heard of a band called The Courteeners, well I hope so because first of all they are phenomenal, but more importantly, they are my inspiration. I was into them alright, I loved them, and they started to inspire me, I would hear words I haven't heard before, this fascinated me. I carried on listening, buying all the CD's and singles etc. Then it dawned on me, I could write songs. I have failed miserably in the past but I thought with such great inspiration that I could do it. So I tried, and didn't do badly, write quite a few, and they were alright, but all to farmiliar. I started to realise that they sounded far to much by songs written by Liam Fray of The Courteeners, so I decided to stop, but just for now. Later on I read that Liam Fray was doing an instore gig to promote the new single, 'No you didn't no you don't', so I went along waited in line for ages and all the usual stuff, but it wasn't until after the performance that I was inspired. Unfortunately, Liam had recieved alot of bad press about arrogance and cockiness, so I wanted to see this for myself. So I waited another hour and a half in the autograph que until I got to him, and I only spoke to him for 5 minutes, but they changed my life. I didn't mention that I was trying to write songs, but more importantly I saw that he was a brilliant man, and I grew to love him (not in a gay way) and I realised that I didnt need to sound like anything anyone else had written. So I went home and ever since that day I have written things completely different to anything else, and to be honest, some of them are pretty damn amazing. This just shows to you that all you need to do is be yourself and don't try too hard to recreate a song you already know. I'm easily inspired, by things that have happened to me, good and bad, and one of my most inspirational things is what I dream of, not in a literal sense, but in the sense that I write about things that I want to happen, but undoubtedly never will. The only let down to my story is that I can't put much music to lyrics because I can only play the guitar very little. The moral of the story is that you need to just ignore anythig else that has been written, don't try to be normal and just write about whatever you want to and no matter what anyone says, just write it, what matters most is that you like it.
