Stephen Fretwell is an accredited writer on "Smiths Disco". Therefore, I wouldn't exactly call it theft. More like borrowed. Still it is far too similiar to Scar. Its basically the same song with the words changed.

Fretwell is amazing! I keep on listening to his stuff on youtube, has he released stuff yet? I may have to invest in some of it! Darling Don't is a pretty good song, have you heard Liams cover of it? He did it for off guard i think, i love it!

Yeah heard Liams version, completely wrong lyrics but still good!
Fretwell is a genius and has released plenty of stuff, two CD albums have been released and '8 songs' on vinyl is great
Has yes she came around yesterday on it which Liam did his own version of one time as well

To set the record straight on the whole Smiths Disco/Scar front, Liam messaged us on myspace...
"Ive been mates for fretwell for years and we had a chat, i said i loved the melody for scar and he said have it."
Not exactly the crime of the century is it.

Certainly aint Cal. Either way, it was only a Bside so it's not like Fray is making a fortune from it anyway, even if he didn't ask for it.
We've said before about this, like with Coldplay robbing that riff from that dude, he is doing the right thing getting money off them because they are making a fortune from the single and the album, but Fretwell need hold no jelousy against Fray, simply because he isn't making money from it, doesn't intend to, and has been told he can use it.

and . . Doesn't Fray put Fretwells name next to it on the single as well as his own?

I mentioned this before i think, thought I remembered Fray and Fretwell being cool with it and Liam constantly said 'cheers stephen' before playing it for a while 8 songs, Im gettin a vinyl - mp3 converter for xmas so will get it done when I can, new romantic as well and whatever else Ive got in my cupboard!

That's for legal reasons, not a labour of love, but aye, there's no problem with lifting bits from songs if it's been credited and they recieve royalties if they wish, least of all if Fretwell gave his personal blessing. And at the end of the day, we got Smiths Disco out of it!

I've just got both of fretwells albums past month and I love them, some of the tunes are immense, but I want to hear 8 songs and I can't find it on the net. Was it limited?
