It was well good!I was glued to the screen....still think it's weird seeing em on big shows like that but I'm glad they are doing well for themselves. Shame about all the mainstream kids who have latched onto them now tho. Classic example: my mate wouldn't come see em with me in Oct, she wouldnt come see liam acoustic, but two weeks ago decided to ask if she could ha other ticket for the academy cause they are 'amazing' despite her turning her nose up twice before....I guess thats what happens.

Noooo... can we have less of the indie snobbery please? Moaning about the 'mainstream kids' getting into them and whatnot, surely what we should all want is that more and more people hear them and see how amazing they are?
'...who happened to like that band first, who likes em more', and all that!

Even though I said the forum members should have been picked for the video shoot in another thread, your point is so correct here.
Every band needs 'em no matter whatever their background is, eventually it's the fans that do count when getting to the top.
Come on! I hope they can crack the world

Not having a direct pop at anyone here, however... "Mainstream Kids" ??! "Scene Queens"?! ...I think some people need to listen a bit more carefully to some of Mr. Fray's lyrics and realise the irony of some the comments they are coming out with.

Hmmmmmm tbh the courteeners are the first 'new' band I've eva liked and I found them by accident - I'm usually last on the scene - I love arctic monkeys but I wasn't q'in to buy the first album - once I 'd heard it loved em! This is because I have two jobs two dogs and a life and don't have time to sit trawling the internet for the next big thing!
There is a lot of snobbery in music I found this when I went to Leeds fest last year and the ppl we camped with spent the whole time moaning about how leeds wasn't like it used to be and how girls are wearing short skirts and wellies! Who cares - ignore what others are doing and enjoy yourself!
I've told anyone who would listen how the courteeners will be next big thing....I must be responsible for at least 5 album sales! lol!

I do spend too much time sat in my bedroom (living room to be correct) on my pc...
...but I certainly don't go looking for bands, I first heard their music, when a radio station played 'Cavorting' after it's release, I shamefully paid £20 for the 7" shortly after! Well worth it though, definitely is one of my favourite sleeves (been buying/collecting vinyl for 13 years!).
And I certainly don't follow any scenes!?! If I hear a band I really like, I will follow them to the end! You can't just stopping liking their music just because their not fashionable! A prime example were 60ft Dolls for me, really loved their songs, they were around in the Britpop days - I hate that term, it was just indie but in the 90's! (Anyone heard of the 60ft Dolls? in off-topic)
Although I love & hate the internet, it's an essential tool for making this forum
Sorry, I haven't even mentioned the thread title...
I did record it but haven't had chance to watch it yet

'...who happened to like that band first, who likes em more', and all that! Correct. I do think they should be paying some dues to the earlier fans but like, im all for them becoming massive. too many people go "oh i cant wait for suchabody to be massive" but when whoever they're on about becomes massive they want nothing to do with them and say they've sold out. childish.

Sounds like iv caused a bit of a debate here...all I meant was that people like the example in question turn their noses up when I play them something new but as soon as the band get some air play and they become 'fashionable' to listen to, they suddenly decide they like them. I agree with the comments about finding new bands, I dont have a lot of time and usually when I find bands its by default, such as on new music shows on XFM and support at gigs and I have no problem with people who just like the music, after all if I like it then its great to share the enjoyment but I just dont like how a lot of people I know wont give anything a shot until its in the charts. I love seeing bands doing well, especially the Courteeners but it just aggravates me when people wont even give them a listen until they are the new band in NME I guess thats never going to change tho

In the courteeners' case, the tunes will always be there. If you strip everything down, the fan base, the nme/channel 4 excitement and all the hype surrounding the band. All you are left with is a set of tunes, that is all that matters. I dont understand people who say 'oh no, im silly, the band are getting too big now, so im not going to see them again'. Or, alternatively, the people who will only listen to bands once they get in the charts/the nme, but are aware of the bands greatness. At the end of the day, the tunes are good and if you are a fan of the bands music at some stage, that is what you should remain (unless they get on a personal level with u like, but we wont go there!!!)

I just hate the whole elitism thing that always rears its ugly head with pretty much any band. A new band is always gonna attract more and more fans the longer they're around because more people hear them... hence the whole reason for touring, tv appearances etc. I only got into them in Jan when What Took You So Long came out, it doesn't make mean I'm not a proper fan, it just means that's the first time I happened to encounter them.
It's just a proper little bugbear of mine, 'scenesters, mainstream' and all that... I've been into 'indie' if that's what we're calling it since I was in my last year at primary school when my mum bought Definitely Maybe, I went to my first gig to see Mansun at Manc Academy when I was 13... yet I'd easily be labelled a 'mainstream kid' cos I spend half my life obsessing over make up counters, fake tan and hanging around River Island, but at the same time I got bullied for 5 years at school for being 'weird' cos I didn't listen to Westlife. Sometimes you can't bloody win these days!
Live and let live please. Be nice!

ive noticed this elitism and snobbery shit on the cribs forum a lot, most people on there wont like a band if theyve been championed by the NME, which i think is pathetic, let the music to the talking, not the hype that goes with it.
on the topic of people not liking a band when they get big, i think thats ridiculous, i think its BETTER if youve liked a band for years and then they finally make it, it makes you feel as if you were part of it.
i got into The Cribs about 2 years ago and theres people whove been to every gig since they played the dog and bollock in a shitty little town, does that make me any less of a fan than them?
no does it f*ck

Oh you get it all the time - like when I went to leeds ppl were looking down their nose at me cos I wore a short skirt (it was hotter than the sun) with my wellies and cos I put a bit of make up on and had some gas hair straightners - I love clothes fake tan make up and girly stuff - but I think there is nothing beta than get covered in larger and sweat and jumping up and down!! On the other hand my old clubbing mates call me a mosher - cos I love indie boy bands! It's all mad...
Live and let live!
