Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - AKA... What A Life!
Two long years have passed since the demise of Oasis, the band many deemed Noel to be the creative face of, and the first official single release comes from Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds. After much praise for the almost folk like promotional single 'The Death Of You And Me', AKA... What A Life! arrives, sounding very different indeed. Whilst 'The Death Of You And Me' was carried by a gentle acoustic guitar, AKA starts with a steady drum beat and piano riff, giving it an altogether different feel. It's a song that is always on the verge of emerging into an Oasis esque guitar solo, but instead continues at a steady, guitar solo free, pace. It's a different beast to the promo single, and gives food for thought when you consider the outcome of the first album from his High Flying Birds. It's a very well written song, and you feel it wouldn't be out of place at a disco type setting. Lyrically it's open to interpreation, with lyrics such as "Someday you may find your hero, someday you may lose your mind". As soon as the song's over, you want to listen again, and you'd hope this is the feeling you also get when finish listening to the full length.
