Smith WesternsSmith Westerns are a band from Chicago with two albums out and youth on their side. Heralding from the same label as Arctic Monkeys, who they'll be joining in October & November on tour, they've released two albums to date, a self titled debut and this year's Dye It Blonde. With a burgeoning reputation in America, they're still little known within the UK. They released their debut album while still in school and won fans with their ear for a great riff, but have been criticized for their use of reverb in the vocals. They self produced the album and whilst this can make it hard to listen to to begin with, when you stick with it the vocals don't seem any different to any other band. Second album Dye It Blonde, released in the UK in 2011, is an album which is critically acclaimed and won them a lot of praise. They described the sound as a natural progression, gained purely by them being able to use a proper studio. Their guitar playing has been compared to that of George Harrison's, and the album really is brilliant. With two albums under their belt and such a young age, they can only get better and better and are a band worth checking out.
