Google alert this morning, comes from XFM:Liam Fray has told Xfm he'll be surprised if we haven't heard new stuff by January.... Speaking to Tim Cocker on the Xfm Manchester Breakfast Show the Courteeners frontman said that the new record sounds "really good at the minute". He went on, "we've only done six or seven demos. I'd surprised if they weren't all on the record. Each one's ticking a box at the minute. It feels pretty good. But you never know, none of them might be on" Full interview near the bottom of the page

Hearing something possibly by January sounds top, only 6/7 months but we'll see. Sounds good so far anyway.

It's basically the same timeline as Falcon was. Started demoing around the same time, worked on it through out the year and then a teaser out in winter (Dec/Jan) so I'll expect the record early 2012.
Sounds like all the songs will be new too, or at least 3/4 of the record will be so the songs I mentioned may be used as b-side material like Revolver & Bojangles on Falcon.
Anybody reckon we'll get new material at these two summer gigs?

This is bad for me actually. If the album's out early next year, we're looking at a tour early to mid next year too, which is when all my exams are.

So liam is saying its going to be heavier than the first 2 albums. personally, i dont think he means as in the sound, heavier drum beats and killer dark riffs. Look at his recent styles of writing, the words and subject matter, theyve been getting progressively "heavier". songs such as the re-write of piercing blues with song based around a sour tasting relationship, Cameo Brooch, again, seems to be pretty dark with the subject. 2 great songs which i rate the style of writing the 3rd album will go down. just a thought!

I just merged this with another 3rd album thread, just to keep everything together

Let's try and kick start this again....any new news?
Any chance that we'll have a new single by Christmas? I'm pretty sure we'll have 4 or 5 new songs in the set for the Apollo gigs.
The band are very tight lipped at the moment and have been for a good year, but surely they will be in the studio by now or sometime very soon.
At V, Liam said he has about 15 songs and they have done half of them as full band demos.
Surely they can't be that far off getting together and recording and then this place and news about the 3rd record will take off in the next 2 or 3 months.
Also, we've spoken a little bit about the sound of the 3rd record but who do you think and/or like to produce the band's third record? Ed Buller again or somebody new?

I hope it's not Ed Buller. I know they picked him cos he was doing The Cheek's demos but he was also doing the likes of One Night Only.

Stephen Street produced Viva Brother, it doesn't make him not a legendary producer...George Martin produced the Frog Chorus! Ed Buller did a great job on Falcon - the double tracked vocal on Scratch Your Name, the disco beat in You Overdid It Doll, the keyboard sound across most of the album, in terms of production Falcon is class.

Ed Buller has a good track record, the man has worked with Pulp & Suede and more recently White Lies and Detroit Social Club. For every good band a producer works with, they work with a shit one too but he did a good job on Falcon.
Whether he would be the man for the job this time - I don't think he would be. Could anybody on here who is in the know give me a list of well renowned producers, I only know of those who have worked with bands I'm into.

I've said in the past I didn't like the production on Falcon but I don't want to open that argument again, just wasn't to my personal taste.
I think the 3rd album will sound bigger. Especially with that Adele comment from Liam, I think it'll be a lot more developed in terms of songwriting. A natural progression I think.

No need to argue if that's your opinion, some will like it and others won't.
I still can decide how this next album will sound? I think it'll be another progression but will it be heavier and slightly darker or will it be big with big guitar lines and choruses, even bigger than we've had.

I've got a feeling it'll be big choruses, although I'm sure we'll hear some new stuff in December.
