UPDATED 1st JULY
Board has been really quiet for a while now so about time we had a thread about the 3rd album to try and generate some excitement.
One place to put all the rumours and speculation we have so far that will hopefully be turned into confirmation before too long.
This is what I have to so far, feel free to add what you know or what you think you know....
He's been toying with ideas for the 3rd album as early as late Feb, posting pictures on Twitter and then returned to the UK early March and seems to have been in the studio for the last 6 weeks.
Whether they are demoing or recording I do not know but I'm pretty sure the album will be out by this time next year and maybe as early as Winter 2012.
Potential album tracks/b-sides: Winter Wonderland
Push Yourself
Save Rosemary in Time......
Another new song, dont know the name yet......
It'll Take More Than A Weekend Away To Fix This Mess Tear Me Apart Tokyo Crows Sunflower Wind & The Drizzle (I think this belongs to Fray, not 100% though)

Added to this is some of the tweets referencing new material and the picture to go along with it; A busy day at the studio today. Things are sounding brilliant. It's early days, but we're in good shape Gonna dust myself down and get back in that studio. Very productive day yesterday. Writing new words is good. X The next album will be the best. L x - Coupled with this; Due to unforeseen recording commitments, the band will not now be appearing at the forthcoming event in Ayia Napa, Cyprus on June 16th 2011.

So it sounds like writing's in the very early stages, with ideas swimming around and possible studio time to test some of it out? Something like that maybe, but we can only guess.

Cheers Sean, forgot to include the Napa Live cancellation.
I really cannot decide what stage the band will be at. I remember them saying that they demoed Falcon before and after touring America so that would have been demoed early-mid 2009 and released early 2010.
That gives me hope for an early 2012 release (Jan-March) if they are at least demoing now with new songs at the big shows and festivals this summer, maybe 1 or 2 at Isle of Wight.

Hopefully otherwise they'll slip into an album every two years cycle and I'm not sure I can wait that long between albums. However, it takes as long as it takes but I'd agree we'd be looking at an early 2012 release. It'll be tough to get it out before the year's ended as bands don't release around Christmas.

sticked. what do we think will be dropped on the new album tour? If you mean the gigs this summer then not many. Think they will debut 1 or 2, maybe 3 at most and then once the album is out next year it will probably be around 6 of each album, maybe a couple more newer ones. The setlist will only benefit at the moment with all the best songs in it, it will get hard after another album though to keep all the fans favourites in.

We can probably guarantee 6-10 new songs in the setlists cant we? So some things will have to go. Bide Your Time, Scratch Your Name for example could be rarities. I think its quite a good thing though, could lead to majorly different setlists at two gigs.

Its always good to have an extensive catalouge to formulate a setlist with. I'm hoping that its mostly tracks from Falcon that get cut rather than St. Jude though.

I'm the opposite, I think that the times are changing and the Falcon tunes suit the band better. Obviously the 4 or 5 main hits need to be played but then the rest of the set can be made from album 2 and 3 (about 6 or 7 songs from each).

I hope they swap it all around a little bit. Bring back things like "Yesterday, Today" and "An Ex is an Ex for A Reason". Nothing worse than when a band you love churns out the same sets.
Also I'd like NYD, NYD to be played with full band instead of solo.

I reckon they should just keep it all, play every song they've ever written... 4/5 hour set? It'd be mega!! Exciting that they're demoing and stuff though! Also, Yesterday, Today and Probably Tomorrow, anyone ever heard that version from the Daytrotter session the lads did?! Think it's full band, drums and strings and stuff, brilliant!!!!!!!!!

Liam was interviewed on Sky at the festival and said that he's written 6 or 7 tunes but they are fully done and demoed and that he's half way though.
Likelihood is that he'll write and demo another 6 or 7 before recording the lot later on in the year and release them maybe Summer 2012 or just before.

Just play Piercing Blues for me I'd be happy. About to watch The Courteeners on Sky Arts. Not seen anything of them in ages.

"We've done a few songs for the new record, six or seven, it's going really well but I don't really know where it's going yet," said the singer. "Instead of going in with acoustic versions like I did with 'Falcon', I've been building it up and getting drum beats and bass parts down before we go into the studio. The results are pretty good, it feels bigger, heavier."
"'Falcon' wasn't particularly enjoyable to write. It was great to record and amazing to play but it wasn't really enjoyable writing it. So I'm going to let my hair down a little bit."
