I think so, I can go to any decent music venue in Manchester and I'm pretty much guaranteed to see a new band that inspires me and keeps my faith in Manchester music.. What sort of stuff are you into?

Well the majority of my favourite bands are actually from Manchester, (stone roses, smiths, oasis, joy division, happy mondays, the courteeners...) but then I also love bands like the jam, small faces, bowie, obviously the beatles, stones, kasabian, arctic monkeys, and then Neil Young and Bob Dylan are also some of my favs. I also like progressive rock and german bands like CAN, Neu!, guru guru etc. I might go to Manchester next year and I really want to get a band together, so that's why I was asking.

Manchester is and has been a hotbed for talent, must be something in the water.
I do though like to think as the North of England as a whole to be very successful in bringing the countries and the world's most influential bands.......Liverpool, Manchester & Yorkshire to name but a few.

I don't personally know of a lot going on in the city at the moment. I know there was an NME piece about Manchester bands which included the likes of Everything Everything, Dutch Uncles and The Heartbreaks, the latter I'm a massive fan of. There's a band called Wu Lyf too but they're quite mysterious, but I'm not sure of any other bands.

Obviously the biggest things out of Manchester at the moment are The Courteeners and Twisted Wheel. But theres a bit of a dry spell, well until i get a band going in a few years and take over the world (that is half jokey and half optimism ). If I cheat slightly there is a band called The Captive Hearts from Wigan (not too far away). They've got this nice tune called Hummingbird which bares some similarities to The La's (very vaguely), The Coral & The Verve. Check them out, you never know you may dig them................... www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w6Vm8CjMXIwww.thecaptivehearts.com/

There is constant growth in Manchester music... I saw this a couple of weeks ago in the form of fresh talent "Daystar" they seem to have adapted a 60's mod sound and merged it In to the modern day indie sound vibe which was not just genius in itself but also reassuring that these 5 young Manc lads are even trying to revive the mod sound that time so tragically forgot. I forgot about Where's Strutter, I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks. All really nice lads too.
