HURTS - All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day
With Coldplay and The Killers among others releasing Christmas songs recently, one brilliant and one mediocre, Manchester band HURTS provide the public with a nice add on to their debut album, out earlier this year. The video released with the song is very HURTS in its theme's. Typically grand themes and drama are present as always, with a congregation of people huddled around what would appear to be a grave. With the band singing things like, "Happiness has never felt so far away", you'd be forgiven for thinking that this song was a pessimistic, morbid tale, and so it continues for most of the song. Further in, suddenly a Christmas tree rises from the ground and happiness spreads, with lines including, "All of the bells ringing out for Christmas, and I'm not supposed to feel this way", they tell of a wish to just get a horrible year behind you. With keys chiming throughout, it's an emotive tale of wanting to move on with your life at a time when everyone around you is joyful. Not every bodies idea of a Christmas song but it works well, and serves as a good supplement to 'Happiness'.
Released via the free single of the week feature on iTunes on the 14th of December.
