Does anyone hope they don't do Arena tours?
I've saw the band in 3 different Glasgow venues and it has been fantastic. From the first time in the QMU to the Barrowlands the other night, each time they've been here they have been fantastic.
The atmosphere at each gig has steadily improved and when Liam says they are a band for the people he's not wrong.
But I think the magic would be lost at a venue like the SECC in Glasgow. Even Oasis sounded shit in there.
ABC has a capacity of over 1,200. Which would be ideal. They'd sell out two nights at the Barrowlands for certain.

oasis sounded shite because they are shite. any magic they have as a live band comes direct from the tunes themselves.
this is why I wish I was at the MEN gig though. it would be nice to see how they cope with it. the band want to be there though dont they, and stadiums too. They need to make songs like Take Over The World and That Kiss sound as big as possible. The heavier tunes will speak for themselves but thats where it will matter I think.

Oasis aren't shite.
They've not played That Kiss the last two times I've seen them live. So I can't see them busting it out for a bigger tour. Especially when they've not played songs like Last Of The Ladies from the new record.

That Kiss would suit the big space though, but it wasnt really the point. You can include Will it Be This Way Forever? for the same reasons.
as much as Ive gotten into Oasis recently, live they dont impress me.

I think Oasis are a very good live act. Liam's voice is not the same and the band lost the passion but in terms of playing live then they were bang on.
There is no reason why The Courteeners can't play arenas either. Unfortunately I think it would mean sacrificing some of the older songs so only ever playing 3 or 4 off St.Jude. Take Over The World & Will It Be This Way Forever? in my opinion will sound 10x better than Aftershow & Fallowfield for example.
It's make or break time for them now, there reputation could rely on the next album and tour that comes in the next 18months. If they nail it then they could become huge!

yes, the next album is critical as to wether they will become a stadium band. MEN gig will show us if they can pull arena tour off. I love Sycophant, but it didnt sount so great live at Leicester (very small venue) but I do wonder if it will sound better at an Arena..

We'll see tomorrow what it's like in an arena. Obviously we'd all prefer smaller venues but I was thinking today about just how many quality songs they've written. There's loads and I can't name a bad one, it's only a matter of time before they release one that just clicks with the masses I think.

They are big enough, If Biffy Can.. The Courteeners definitely can. The Near sell out MEN, says it all really. but would i want them to? Probably not, playing huge venues loses the majority of the intimacy you get at a smaller venue e.g. Manchester Academy. Nothing better than shouting up to the lads, and seeing em hear it and smile!

I honestly thought arenas would be to big. I was wrong, MEN was fucking brillant.

The reason they managed to sell out the MEN Arena is because it's a homecoming gig.
I doubt they'd sell out areans outside Manchester.
