The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever
"Second-last single went in at number 44. Last single, 20. Do we have to draw you a graph? The Hype Halving Rule remains mathematically valid: this’ll likely hit the Top Ten, though mainly because the Top Ten is limp and this is some ladrock equivalent of Scouting For Girls. “God bless the band/They’re doing all they can”, Liam Fray laments at its climax, and we’d sympathise. The lyrics might contain a vivid dissection of failing relationships, but musically it’s so under-produced it’s a bit like saying Ronnie Corbett is ‘doing all he can’ as goalie for Tottenham Hotspur. GH"
mind you this is the same magazine that said connor oberst is this generation's bob dylan.

God, what a surprise that is! I haven't read the NME for about 7 years, and it did nothing but piss me off when I did read it every week as a teenager. It's a waste of bloody money and its only purpose is to be almost like some ridiculous bible for idiots who need to be told what their taste is so then they can prance about feeling trendy as hell. On top of that, me & a friend met an NME photographer years ago when we were 16, he must've been about 40 and was asking us to go back to his hotel with him. Pervy I D I OT S !

thats not even actually a review. at no point does it review the track remotely, it just tells us a load of rubbish about the courteeners, insults the band, the top 10, the production, mentions nothing about the song and attempts at humour tosh

NME will have to start watching it's back!
Artrocker is starting to emerge as the new essential indie mag
I have bought (not always read) the NME for the last 13 years but has never been the same since it was a newspaper The single reviews are pretty much pointless and filled with garbage!!
It's easy to find an mp3 of the track now, so I will listen to that or I just buy the single myself to see what it's like.
NME will pay for all it's of hype and destruction ;D

its true though... they rave about bands on the underground scene, and then when they make it, nme sl*g the shit outta them! i used to buy nme all the time, only read a couple of pages cause of all the shite they write.... waste of £2.20 or however much it is! dont read the nme reviews... make your own judgment on a track!

I wouldn't even wipe my arse with that shite.
Stopped reading it when they were continually coming out with childish anti-milburn remarks every week.

Everyones points about NME are exactly right! I started buying it when I was around 17 and then stopped about a year ago cos they were just annoying the hell out of me! It's turned into an 'Indie' version of Heat or just an extra long version of The Suns 'Celebrity Gossip' pages!! I've bought the odd few over the last year because ive seen theres an article on The Courteeners or another band but generally the articles were shit anyway!

yeah when that had that big bit about liam slagging off other bands, albiet a good read, i was speaking to liam at the Chester gig n he said he said a load of good things about other bands to but they never mentioned all that, just the bad stuff
