Chapel Club - All The Eastern Girls Out now
After earning many high profile support slots, mass media hype and a joint headline NME Radar Tour, London band Chapel Club release their third single, All The Eastern Girls. As they try to rid claims that they are a second rate Joy Division/White Lies, they serve up a fine example of indie music. It opens with a mixture of commanding guitar and a simple drum beat before Lewis Bowman's distinctive baritone cuts through both, claiming "my mind is a nightgarden". The build up to the euphoric chorus is largely based around Bowman and his various proclamations before the song really takes off. The chorus delivers on early promise, and builds up to the anthemic conclusions, with Bowman asking, "Did we take things too far?". This then transforms into the aforementioned choruses and climaxes with him telling us, "This is a love song", repeatedly. The song is by no means groundbreaking but is a good follow up to the slightly better '5 Trees' and is a nice taster for the forthcoming album.
