I think there's a fair chance the Courteeners are going to do well this year, no doubt win some awards and have a number 1 album. ;D This might seem a bit negative on this site but I don't see how they could appeal to anyone outside Britain (apart from the switched on people.) The Japanese might 'get ' them because they love anything British with guitars, but I don't think Americans will and I cant see many country's getting it either. Theres a distinct Britishness in there music and I don't think it will transfer, I don't think people will get it!! I'm not panning them, Its happened before!! Any one think the same??

personally, i think they're the best equipt band to do so since probably oasis, not just in terms of tunes but in terms of attitude and wanting to do so, and thats why they will take over britain. this country is gagging for a band to do what oasis did and incite that kind of reaction with tunes of a very high calibre and that. and the courteeners have got what it takes. though the britishness of the music (same with oasis again) may stand in the way of them cracking america (thus the world), so i cant predict what will happen there. who knows, i spose, many bands have been in this position and fallen short of the mark, but sumat bout the courteeners leads me to think this wont be the case

mm I know what you two mean, like eg: arctic monkeys, they came on the scene with their attitude, refusing tv interviews, performances etc, they did ok over in the states oasis had the same, attitude and swagger wouldn't suprise if they did ok overseas though - hoping I am

I am really hopeful that St Jude makes it to Number 1 in the Album Chart. It certainly deserves the recognition of being a Number 1 Album, in my opinion. I agree with FastFuse completely in that i think: "Theres a distinct Britishness in there music and I don't think it will transfer, I don't think people will get it!" But this is also what i believe to be so exceptional about the music that The Courteeners produce, in that there is a distinctiveness/wit about their lyrics and sound that lets fans like us really associate with and understand their music. It is Northern England through and through.

i think there is good chance they will do well abroad.
I seem to remember liam announcing on stage that the record label wouldn't let them release Fallowfield Hillbilly 'cause they thought people outside of machester "wouldn't get it"
However it was one of the best receipted songs in hull, middlesbrough and glasgow.
So I wouldn't worry about them not making it anywhere, good music is universally good music.

I was going to say there's no way Americans would get the humor because as a rule they don't do sarcasim........It seems I'm wrong as our esteemed American friend has proven!!
But thinking again theres no way there going to get a song like , Fallowfield Hillbilly.
Sorry but I think that the majority of Americans (h10pas, your not included here...) have a terrible taste in music. (who else would let 50 Cent, Green Day, Nickleback and such other shite make so much money. Oh yeah don't forget Paris hilton....the genius!!!)
America should welcome them with open arms and take a serious look at how a real band play and write songs......but they won't get it.
Australia might because they still owe us for Kylie and f**k**g Inxs.
As I said in my previous post they will piss Japan and no doubt love going over there!!
I don't think its about the band not being good enough.
With out sounding rude (HA!!) *As a rule every other country in the entire world apart from us are full of mongs when it comes to musical taste!!!
*(I Understand that this is quite a Childish and sweeping statment but it made me laugh please feel free to disagree)

Yeah I used to work with three. They were false and over the top!!
Rick give me three really good American bands from the last 3 years!!
We both now we could reel off double that from the England!!
They produced rehashed shit Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Justin Timberlake, Usher, I could go on and on and on and on!!!

i've got a mate in Seattle and i've been sending him over demos and the cd's each time they come out, and he is mad for the courteeners, totally loves them. i think they will do well abroad, i know the japanese mini album was created in a hurry because of how many times their songs were being downloaded out in Japan.

all the american "equivalents" - i use the word lightly - of british music are extremely poor and have little originality. I cite blink and sum41 as examples. and +44 can go in there too. as can greenday previous to American Idiot.
All that american rock is the same. droning, boring, powerchord after powerchord.
The key word is originality in my opinion. the courteeners have that.

while i'm not going to argue that there is a fair amount of shit music coming out of america, becuse there certainly is, but there was quite a bit of shitty pop music in england when i was there as well (sugababes, mcfly, hoosiers, etc.). though i will admit most of the music i listen to tends to be british, and right now i will not dispute that it is quite a bit better at the moment. save for the strokes and 2 or 3 other bands, there is a lot of horrible rock music here.

Our pop is far far worse than the dross coming out of America because all of our nasty crap is ripped of from the slightly better American versions. I was really saying that in my opinion all the 'big' American rock bands are rubbish, but saying that The Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand are both crap and there supposed to be 'our best'!! Americans wont get the 'teeners' and they should because they are....MEGA!!! ;D I'd rather listen to Liam Fray for 2 minutes than 2 hours of Green Day!!!

i wouldn't write off america just yet though. i'm pretty sure arctic monkeys last tour here was mostly sold out.
