25 years ago i was 15, and had meat is murder on pre-order, not at recordstore.com or hmv.com, at slaters record shop in barlick, it cost a few weeks spending money but it was a total must have. there was no internet, the smiths got no daytime radio 1 play, janice long had zane lowe's slot, late evening was john peel, they both played plenty of smiths, janice still does, no chat rooms to talk about bands, just the nme, sounds and melody maker, the nme had the smiths in just about every week for years, i have the album on the turntable now, it's timeless, there will never be another smiths, its 25 years old, so get it played this weekend people. in 2 weeks the courteeners release album 2, this also has me exited for a release, something that hasnt happened to me apart from mozz, for a long time. thankfully nowadays, radio 1 has lightened up, and the net brings loads of new fans, myspace etc, but if any of you are 15 ish and well into the courteeners, enjoy the moment, get to the gigs, buy the records/cd's, support the band, because in 25 years time we will be listening to falcon and saying what a great album and what a great band the courteeners were, ... i've seen this happen in other people's live's, and now it's happening in mine...

Very good post. The feeling I have now is very surreal. I have never felt this way about anything before. This beats the countdown to the Play-Offs at Wembley. I imagine this is what it was like waiting for, say, 'Defiantly Maybe'.
As you said, savour the feeling, which is what I'm doing. This is what makes music so good. x

Hopefully this post won't get ignored like half of yours Wrighty! A lot of sense spoken. Absoloutely brilliant album, probably my favourite Smiths album, few records have impacted me in the same way (not enough to abstain from a full English though). Up there with "Setting Sons", "Definitely Maybe" and "Vauxhall and I" in terms of my favourite albums. Staying in tonight for the first time in a while, going to enjoy Meat is Murder in full. If you're young and never listened to the Smiths or awt, go out and buy it or listen online or something, take a chance on it. Timeless.

Been trying to get into the Smiths alot. Bought a book about all the tunes and get some of the records. Think I'm at the same point you were with Meat is Murder mate. Never felt like this about a album before actually can't wait. Been trying to do what you're saying too, getting to as many gigs as possible and that.

Love the way you finished that off. Can't wait for Falcon, lot more press for this album so hopefully can get them up there. Seeing as I missed the printed name in pre-order booklet I'll be doing the old record store at 9AM

Great post.
I will try to bare this in mind when I'm pondering what to play when I get home fro work, good shout. Great great album.
I hope you're right, no way of telling, but perhaps we will be telling younger folk in another 25yrs about how we bought Falcon etc etc, and what an effect it had on us. Great post anyway pal.
