Cross My Heart and Hope To Fly Review
1 Review by the Panel By Luke Beardsworth | Initial waves of doubt crashed against me when I first heard this song. The main concern was the "ooo"'s and the claps, and I did wonder if it was a little too arena for them. The claps were done fine so they've grown on me, but the opening "ooo"'s left something to be desired.
Then I wonder if Liams vocals are working with this sort of production (I wouldnt call it overproduction but it is certainly moreso than anything on St. Jude) and though it took a few listens to get used to it, I definitely think they do.
The lyrics are great as you would expect from Liam, and it has a very big chorus that is made for singalongs. Fans of the band have always sang along almost word for word when I have been there so this should go down well and make it a good live track.
Final word though; this is a brave step into new territory for the Courteeners and something not enough of their contemporarys or influences have tried, and for this I applaud them. That being said, if this isnt one of the weaker tracks on the album, I'll be disappointed.

And The Courteeners have never done sth like "Cross My Heart..." and it's the best thing they've ever wrote I think ^^

In no way is it the best thing Liam has ever wrote.
Although, it's a proper tune and everyone on here probably learned the words in the first night it was released for download...

Like you say, not the best song he's ever written but everything fits in perfectly, I think the production makes it a cracking tune! When the guitar kicks in after about the first minute the shivers down my spine kick in til the end... a great feeling After listening to the version from Warrington it shows that it'll be a top addition to the set.
