Respect the Dead.
In the wake of Michael Jacksons new single being released I think that this is a topic that needs to be touched upon.
It strikes me as abit ridiculous that this has been released. When you consider its a song Michael himself decided was not fit to go on one of his albums (and we know b-sides arent quite as revered as in rock music) then you cannot help but think its very exploitative. Would he have wanted it released? Well hes already made that decision once.
The same could be said for the upcoming Michael Jackson movie but instead I'm going to look at a different example. The use of the Kurt Cobain character in Guitar Hero 5 is abit a joke. Considering the mans contempt with fame and mainstream ideas are what supposedly contributed to his death, this strikes me as very disrespectful even with his inclusion. Another reason that Courtney Love deserves to rot. But then include that he can sing Bon Jovi tunes, or Pearl Jam tunes, bands that he has openly criticised, its like having Liam Gallagher singing Chasing Cars. Im not exactly thrilled at the possibility of having Matt Bellamy singing Shock of the Lightning but at least hes consented to it, its not just his widow padding her pockets (its him padding his own). When a mans widow cannot respect his memory, there is something amiss.
There are countless examples of things like this everywhere when a celebrity dies and it wont change. Its just a shame they cannot be remembered in ways that they wouldve been happy with.
Envy the Dead.
