Why Oasis splitting up is a good thing.
I could see this being a contrevertial one, but maybe more people will agree with me than I think. Not really sure what to expect.
I'll start with something positive then. This should lead to a Noel Gallagher solo album. Or side-project. Or Monkey Opera. Something different from the man. Despite a well documented dislike of Oasis, I really like Noel Gallager. He seems to be the easier to get along with of the two brothers, has the better voice, a good songwriting mind and, unlike Liam, real talent. This was brought to my attention when I saw an Oasis unplugged thing on MTV2 (though it was from a long time ago) and was impressed. Something a Liam fronted Oasis never did to me. What also has me interested is that Noel apparently has alot of songs, that weren't suitable for Oasis, ready. It will be interesting to see whether Noel can do a tune that isnt your typical Britpop fare. I would have preferred to see it done with Oasis, might have prevented the plumet of their career even.
I also do think this will do wonders for the careers of other bands. Alot of fans may be looking towards other bands to provide new music for them. Now alot of them may glance at the Enemy and thats obviously a terrible thing. But other options are the Courteeners, Kasabian, The View, The Cribs etc. Alot of Oasis fans were just fans of Oasis I have found and then just liked what Mr. Radio told them. So they will need new heroes.
But for me, the best thing is that Oasis churned out several terrible albums before they split. With abit of luck they wont be placed on this ridiculous pedastal gifted to The Stone Roses, Libertines, The Las and company. Especially if Noel goes onto better things. I'm sure he will.
Disagree? As usual; Dont ask.
