its to show you understand it conor, which you would need in many fields.
a big welcome to christian, i hope you become a regular poster. cb and sean are young but good lads. alot of my favourite writers are the same as alices to be fair. loved robert brownings stuff at GCSE level but TS Eliot cannot be ignored and Alices stuff has had an effect on my stuff too recently.
Overall though my biggest influences would be Thom Yorke and Laura Marling. Maybe Muse sometimes.

you'll need to be doing language or literature at a-level sean, both can be a major ball ache at times.

Yeah you definitely need to do so form of English or they just won't let you on the course ;D
I agree that the poetry can get quite boring at times but the novel and play side is much better. Since Year 10 I've done some great books - Of Mice and Men, Great Expectations, Blood Brothers, The Great Gatsby, 1984, The Cather in the Rye, Wuthering Heights and The Kite Runner. All of which I'd thoroughly recommend.

well if your doing them both you do it as one subject. so then id do anything from media studies (very underated course, and very interesting) psychology (uni's seem to like this pairing with english, and its very easy) a modern language (makes you understand the absolute basics of your own language alot, which you wouldnt get)....infact them 3 would be ideal. but dont rush into it, i really fucked up my a-level choices n im paying for it now.
edit: christian i wish i had read 1984 at school, i read it a few months ago n i think its my favourite novel now.

Yeah, it's one of my favourite books to, but I didn't really study it to be honest, only for about two weeks, it was more an accompaniment for my coursework. Saying that I was quite glad that we didn't study it fully because it tends to ruin it. I love George Orwell and have probably read everything he has published, and so studying The Great Gatsby made it become pretty boring, analysing every single sentence and so on. But I read it again over the summer and loved it. Studying a book usually tends to take the enjoyment out of it.

yeah i'd want to do media studies def. if my school do it, psychology sounds a bit crap though :/ never done modern languages before so i probably couldn't do that.
and yeah we did great expectations a while ago, it was okay. doing of mice and men soon though.

hmmm i know they want us to understand it and all that, but anyway ive got a english teacher i absolutely love now, he left at the start, but hated the school he moved to, then came back. he made me do so well in english, but was gutted when he left. hopefully i can do well in english now. and erm sean, i dunno cos from the styart of the year ive had substitute teachers that just did anything they thought was relavent, one once told us to read a book we had read the year before, it was terrible, but yeah got my proper teacher back now, hes such a laugh, but is a great teacher aswell.
