Good review that. Shame the curse of the same old stupid and comparisons had to rear its lazy head, SHAUN RYDER for gods sake!!
It does make a nice change from 'trying to be the next oasis' though

Slightly differing from most reviews, obviously the reviewers first look at the band looking at the BORING comparisons. But it is a nice little review.

the comparisons are there for a reason, in fairness. glad they differed him from morrissey, would make me ill if they compared.

the comparisons are there for a reason, in fairness. glad they differed him from morrissey, would make me ill if they compared. The comparisons aren't there for a reason and aren't in any way justifyable. It is piss poor journalism, if Liam Fray wasn't from Manchester not one person would even mention him in the same breath as Shaun Ryder. Where is the comparison other than in geography? It's an insult to both the journalist and Liam Fray. And you can compare Morrissey to Liam Fray (or at least more than you can a vegatable like Mr Ryder) , I'm not saying they're very similar BUT they have similar onstage movements during songs like Please Don't, they're both clever with their words in terms of songwriting, niether will sell their soul for cash, both care about the fans.... and I think that thats a comparison Liam Fray would be more welcoming to than a comparison to Shaun Ryder, Ian Brown or Liam Gallagher (and I am a massive fan of Brown and Gallagher by the way). I don't see why music journalism at the moment revolves around comparisons, hype and discussig everything but the song/album/gig that is being reviewed

couldnt even tell you who the f*ck shaun ryder is.
and yeah, that geography and the name being a reason, and they look similar, my point more was, asif the echo gives a shit? yeah its lazy but they are very easy comparisons to make, in that liam is very gobby in a similar way to liamg and ian. i see the comparisons and i am NOT a massive fan of brown and gallagher, quite the opposite.
my point with the morrissey thing was tht i aint really a fan of his music so i dont want the comparisons really. take that for what its worth to you which is no doubt little considering the ridiculous pedastal you have him on.

I'd not call it ridiculous. He's made some shit in his time, Kill Uncle and Maladjusted were dreadful albums by anyone's standards, and he's made his fair share of mistakes as well. But the good outweighs the bad dramatically. Morrissey is one of the few artists who is completely himself, and will not pretend to be anything but. Lyrically, there are very very few who come close, and as a performer he is also top notch. It's the honesty that does it for me, and the brutal "take it or leave it" approach

well fair enough, honesty is fine n i dont think his tracks are bad, but sometimes i like abit more creativity with the music aswel as the lyrics. any pedestal is ridiculous to an extent.
