you secretly from northern ireland ant?
nah i agree he has lost the pace but he scores, regularly, n i meant in general, i can understand completely why he wasnt picked this week. n maybe the new system will incorporate rooney effectively? slovakia is one thing (or was it slovenia) but we didnt look that clever tonight.

Totally agree, after the performance at the weekend it was poor really....All the idiots in the press going mad about how good we are!!! Unfortunately where not that good. We should be with the team we have, but where constant under-achivers......and when it comes down to penalties we just bottle it.
The sooner the press stop putting pressure on the England squad the sooner we might actually win something.
I do like Cuppello though, he's a quality manager.....but I just think apart from Rooney and Gerrard the rest of em don't seem that arsed to play for the country....its all Bentleys and bullshit!!

yeah good to play, bad to watch! maybe on telly but never in person. i went to the sydney test, england v australia in person in early 2007. england were shite but i had the time of my life! sun shining, with me mates, other side of the world, not a cloud in the sky, and a steady stream of beers coming. you watch it right, cricket is the best game in existence!

I just love it full stop. I was a season ticket holder at Lancashire up until now, 12quid a year for under 18's and you get to go in pavilion and all that. When the sun is out just get there early and it's an ace day out. The best game I've ever been to was my first test match I ever saw, 2007 Headingley England v Pakistan 4th day, Strauss hundred, Trescothick and Read got ace 50's, I remember the crowd erupting when Panesar cover drove a 4. Got 2 signed mini bats at the game, framed now. Those were the days.

It annoys me when people say England players dont care, they are in it for the money blah blah blah. It is such an obvious way to criticise an under achieving well payed team. Its bollox cos you can rest assured as a professional athelete they are wanting to win every single game they play. The amount of expectation this country constantly builds up towards our national team means they could never do anything other than try their best.
The International game is a slow one. A patient one. A game the english are not used to playing. Techniqual ability has not been the main thing when developing young players in this country which is why we constantly fail at the final hurdle. We are getting better at that though. Cappelo is bringing that into our play, and you can see some nice cleaver interchanges within our play.
England will never play football out of this world. I can't see that happening until (as i mentioned) the way we develop our players changes. So for now, we might as well get behind the England team, not do as some papers did this morning and go over board (as per usual - they said that only Spain were better than us) and let Cappelo get on with improving the team.
By the way - I to hate the Internaitonal breaks as it disrupts the Prem. I find it hard to support players for my country who I hate at club level. oh well.

No not aimed at you mate. Wasnt really aimed at anyone in particular. People are so quick to blame the money etc, etc for Englands bad performacnes and it is so ignorant to do so.
Owen was an amazingly gifted footballer and goal scorer. When fit he is arguably still one of our best we have. Defoe, himself and ashton perhaps are the most natural forwards we have at our disposal. Its just such a shame that Owen has been ravsihed by injureis and has lost his biggest asset, his pace. Pace can never be under estimated. Look at C Ronaldo. Beginning of the season he lacked a yard of pace and was (for his high standards of last year) poor. Easy to read, created little and couldnt beat his man. Owen is a very clever player and even still without his pace does what he is there to do, score goals. Ronaldo sturggled to do what he is paid to do, create and score. He has over recent months started to get back to somewhere near his over rated best, but that is another story.
My point is, Owen is still a class player. I just dont think he fits into Cappelos plans. And I can understand why unfortunately.

i can also understand why but to not call him up? im afraid to say that as a substitute he may be useful in the same way david beckham is. i know atm he should be called up and i guess we will see if he does in general but yano...
owen when he has the ball n a decent chance, i feel confident its a goal, cant say the same about rooney or anyone like that other than torres, gerrard, or david nugent ( a preston fan, you see my point). he is brilliant i think.

I wasn't saying it was down to money why they play like women sometimes. As far as I'm aware they don't even get paid to play for England or at least they didn't used too!! Half of the team perform and half the team don't, I missed a few out before but Rooney always plays well for England as does Beckham Gerrard also when he plays in the right position. To be honest its Lampard and Cashley Cole that get on my nerves its arrogance from playing for the biggest team in London they don't seem half arsed.
I agree with the points that international games are slower and I'm not going to start with the classic 'there paid enough' but we should in the worlds top four at least the squad is worth however many million we should do better.
