I think the penalty is an excuse for spurs cos we completely tore them apart
they were still winning 2-1 and could have got something but we were too good, as for webb yes he got it wrong but from where he was on the pitch I can see why he gave a pen
carrick just got a touch before gomes did so i think he thought it was carrick nudging it away and therefore saw it as gomes taking him out
irrelevant as we were on fire in the second half and spurs were dog sh*t and god knows what would have happended if he hadn't given it, I think we still would have battered em

if a player made a challenge in the middle of the park, and got a tiny touch on the ball but took a huge chunk of leg at the same time, a free kick would be given. so why shouldn't we have got that pen?

becus you dont give penalties unless your 100% sure, to be honest, everyone from fergie to forum dwellers has admitted that it wasnt a pen so its not an argument to make really.
maybe it gave them a little boost? i dont know but its happened anyway, an opportunity missed i guess as far as united droppin points goes.

yeah theres hardly much point debating it, shit happens and until any sort of video ref similar to rugby (whether it would work or not is another debate in itself) comes into footy bad decisions will be made and teams will be effected by human error

to be honest football gives what it does to us partly because of things like that so i dont think they should put it in, rugby is v predictable and im not saying its because of that but i dont want to see it.
i do think something needs to be put in place to make the premier league more competitive. even if this hurts the top 4. and city.

If it wasn't for all the money, i doubt so many people would be calling for video replays and the like.

aye, which is also why i doubt the league will have measures to make it more competitive, the rich clubs will say no, the safe clubs (everton, villa) will likely say no and bolton and blackburn may vote yeah.
id have a fuckin monumental wage cap, and id put a cap on tv money and all that shit. our league is in serious danger of becoming the SPL and i hate it. the pundits pretend to be excited that we dominate europe but for football on the whole that isnt good either. 6 english players per starting 11 OR 9 in the squad for each match i think would help too.

thank god mate. i thought me and me dad were the only ones who thought that! wage cap would be perfect imo, as long as it was imposed europe-wide. and i totally support platini's attempts to introduce quotas for nationalities in teams. chelsea only fielded two english players last night, and then subbed lampard. the same will be true of arsenal tonight with walcott and gibbs. so much for two team supposedly hailing from the english capital.
and whilst i'm on it, may i ask why fabio capello was in barcelona last night? as england manager, what possible purpose could he have there? he knows full well what lampard and terry can - and arguably can't - do. It was simply another FA-funded jaunt for him and his cronies. the money would be better spent at grassroots.

lets all bow down to tugay, i was considering starting a thread. retiring at the end of the season after an illustrious career with many a long range classic! one of the best midfielders going. he is the man!
