MANCHESTER indie band The Courteeners are in the middle of a plot straight out of a soap opera - literally.

The rockers are central to a storyline in Coronation Street, tomorrow and Friday, as they play a big role in the dramatic split between David Platt and his girlfriend, Tina.

And they couldn't be happier because it seems the exposure on the prime-time TV show is getting them noticed as much as being on the cover of music bible the NME.

In the new Corrie storyline David has been suspicious of his girlfriend Tina's internet use, so he gets her email password from her diary and finds out she has been emailing her ex-boyfriend.

One of the emails Tina sends says her favourite band is The Courteeners, so, spontaneously, David gets her two tickets for a Courteeners gig.

But Tina puts two and two together and realises David has been looking at her emails and leaves him.

The Courteeners singer Liam Fray is delighted the band will become part of Coronation Street history.

He tells me: "Every time one of our tracks gets played in the Rovers Return my mobile struggles to cope with all the texts that I get - God knows how it's going to handle us actually getting mentioned in a couple of episodes.

"I think they've played every single track off our album in the Rovers over the last few months and I grin from ear to ear every time I hear one of our tunes in the background.

"We were told a few weeks back that we might feature in a storyline and when it was confirmed we were all properly impressed. Coronation Street is a real institution isn't it? So we're proud to get a mention in it. I just wish that they'd bring the ghost of Ivy back."

Living in devon, Not alot of people know about the band, so I have had to explain to people who they are and played them a few tracks of my ipod. And now, there all fans too ;D

I'll be watching Corrie omnibus on sunday morning! David and tina were suppose to go and see foals when she had the abortion, obviously her musical taste has improved......

I love it when they are played on Corrie, Bide Your Time is always on in Rovers and conveniently gets cut of at "they fuckin' do my head in", and the same with Fallowfield and Please Don't.
