I really can't believe this music.guardian.co.uk/glastonbury2008/reviews/story/0,,2288090,00.html Do they seriously think that only ppl from manchester like the courteeners.. Just when I thought they had redeemed themselves by including Alex Turner in the great lyrics series they pull a stunt like this. Ok rant over...

Glastonbury 2008 review: The Courteeners
Despite their music being a charmless collection of post-Libertines prattle they seem to inspire devotion

Where and when: John Peel stage, Saturday 4.40pm Dress code: Frontman man Liam Fray wears a baggy white printed T-shirt, shades and a swagger - looking every inch the Ashcroft/Ian Brown hybrid.
In a nutshell: The Courteeners' greatest asset is their intense and massive local following. And so it seems that everyone born with 30 miles of Middleton is here and hollering like a loon at the introduction of Fray and his youthful cohorts. Playing the highlights from debut album St Jude - the band enter to a thunderous roar. Before each track, including latest single No You Didn't, No You Don't, the noise doesn't let up. Despite their music being quite a charmless collection of post-Libertines prattle they seem to have achieved levels of devotion other more critically-acclaimed bands could only dream of. That's enough for Liam to tell the crowd before closing track What Took You So Long, that this "has been the greatest day of my life". The terrace chants continue long after the band have left the stage. One imagines that if the rest of the country was even half as keen on them as this lot then Noel Gallagher wouldn't have to worry about a lack of indie-guitar bands on the Pyramid stage for too much longer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's watching: Half of Greater Manchester by the sounds of it. It took one song for the "Man-ches-ter, la, la, la chants to start. High point: Standout single Not Nineteen Forever gets the already rowdy crowd geared up like it's a lairy Friday night on Deansgate.
Low point: The shoutalong singing of the crowd.
Marks out of ten: 6
What does it all mean, maan?: It's the sound of a city eating its own myth.

I know I was furious when I read it - I live 2 hours away from Manc as do all my friends that have been to see the 'teeners.....and as for everyone singing Manchester la la la lar - well when I go to see them I join in the singing....like when I go see the monkeys I join in the yorkshire chants...fuming.....

This happens at many gigs and within many 'genres' I hate this one: Dress code: Frontman man Liam Fray wears a baggy white printed T-shirt, shades and a swagger - looking every inch the Ashcroft/Ian Brown hybrid. For f**k sake! I think most of glastonbury were wearing baggy printed t-shirts and shades! Not even going to mention the 'swagger' The media must have used the Gallagher comparison too many times now then and moved on to the next ones. Change the f*****g record!

thanks for posting - shit review. shame as the guardian is my newspaper of choice, but they are letting themselves down, lazily labelling the band with every manc stereotype they can possibly think of - without ever actually explaining themselves.
tossers.

Laughable though isn't it, its only really the Guardian and the NME keeping this up, fair play if they don't like them or don't get them or whatever, but I just haven't seen many half decent grounds in their reviews. A few bad review's aint the end of the world is it though, the Courteeners track record and past year in my eyes goes before all that rubbish
In the words of Paul Weller in the Jam's "The Modern World": "I know where I am and going to, It's somewhere I won't preview, I don't have to explain myself to you, I don't give two fucks about your review"

who gives a flying f**k what his dress code was
people come to see the band and enjoy the music and experience, not check what t-shirts they are all wearing
who really gives 2 shits what they say because they all talk outta there arses when it comes down to music reviews
oh and also the quote made me laugh
"High point: Standout single Not Nineteen Forever gets the already rowdy crowd geared up like it's a lairy Friday night on Deansgate"
lairy? ooh sounding cool because he has heard it from a kaiser chiefs song

guardian and nme have to keep slagging them off. they weren't keen at first, and even now that courteeners have had a little success, they feel they have to keep havin a go. you can tell they're all dying to admit they love them =P
But some of the review was fantastic... Who's watching? Half of Greater Manchester by the sounds of it. It took one song for the "Man-ches-ter, la, la, la chants to start.
fantastic! aaah makes me proud to be a manc. wish i was there =(
