With a bit of speculation resulting from an email from the band's manager asking for a quick chat I got yesterday I thought I'd start a thread for all this talk I've quoted the posts from kokainekinney and chezza in the The T-shirt is dead, long live the T-shirt! thread to keep this subject away from the t-shirt news.

daz, would u let the forum become the official forum?? cus its been running perfectly as an independent type fans forum, plus, the big boys in charge of the band, might try to make money out of this forum. its been running fine with your hard work and having cal as an administrator, lets just hope they dont have their own ideas about trying to get their people to run this forum. we all know what they have been up to, deleting bits from people posts in the nydnyd section, lets just hope that kind of thing isnt a permanant fixture

Yeah good point.....we don't want them taking over telling us what we can can't say...you know what it's like now look at big brother....but this forum is really good - it's beta than the arctic monkeys forum...and any festival forum I've tried to post on I usually go on forums a few times and then lose interest but I'm on this on everyday! I just think darren and cal deserve some recognition for their work....

I know everything has been going great and the look of the forum is starting to get a bit of character but with official backing we could finally use the snortingandcavorting.com with a new design and better display of the content. Imagine nice pop-ups when looking at the discography, all the sleeve artwork could be displayed, it would make everything display better. Maybe with help the management we could have someone with a professional knowledge of website design and make everything easier for me to develop the forums content instead of worrying about html and all that I would only think about being official if it benefits the community and never allow a takeover, I would still want us to have full control over what we do with the forum. They would really benefit from working with S&C, direct access to the fans and want they think would surely help them, who knows something could come from all this ;D

this forum is up there with the best, i dont recon a single person this forum (regular posters) would mind if darren kept on running this forum to his, already, high standards.
if the big boys took over, darren, would u still be the main man? or would they chuck a 'professional forum runner' into the mixer to take over.

My concern is that if/when it becomes official, someone from the management will take over and it will be linked to the website and get good promotion, which is all well and good, but a lot of the hard work and effort from Mr Wells will be lost, if some management busybody takes over. What's more, they may rob us of this local treasure with all of their meddling, I'd get fair annoyed with immenent reminders of the next single and where to buy it from and in what formats every day, and if they get involved in the forum t shirt business it will probably rise tremendously in price. I dunno, there are good arguments on both sides, either way like, cos as good as the work is that Darren's putting in, he must feel like theres a bit of a workload for him which no doubt would be eased if it became official

well yeh it is all down to darren wells (local hero). but would u want anybody else running the forum instead of darren? cant be bothered with some big time who is appointed to run the forum. darrens done a crackin job, and there is no need for a change.

we dont this forum to turn into the arctic monkeys forum, that is such a crap site. it could either go 2 ways, the arctic monkeys way, or the ian brown forum way. the ian brown forum is class, ran by 'jailer' who is top banana, it is an official forum, but it is ran properly, with a fan running it.

Hey this has really proved to be a talking point. Thanks for all your posts and I'm in total agreement with you, if the forum ever had the chance to become official then I would never let it go out of our hands. All I did was make it from a proboards template, nothing fancy, no ridiculous loading times with masses of backgrounds, maybe the images are a pain at times but that's all It's all down to you lot that the forum has become a really friendly place to hangout and talk about the band. It's also made me want to get to know you lot, I receive some great PM's from members and they are always welcome (sorry if it takes me so long to reply). There also seems to be a 'trust' within the community which has really added to the whole spirit of coming on the forum. I would never let anyone take control, I will run this forum the way you want me too. Thanks everyone ;D

One thing I would be wary about is that if this became the official forum you may be restricted on having links to download live stuff.
If you are gonna go official, I would try and get a deal where they dont mind people sharing live mp3s etc. Just once the links dont have any officially released stuff obviously.

I see what your getting at but surely they would have made me remove much of the audio by now, official or not. The Audio category has a range of tracks that are demos, recordings and live material and that's been around since we first began. I only recall one time they got in touch for the removal of some official recordings and that's it. Looking deeper into it, the sessions and that are owned by the radio stations but have you ever heard of any forum/blog/site/etc that have 'got done' for hosting and allowing downloads of their sessions ? I know I haven't - It's good publicity for them if people are listening to the sessions as it'll probably lead to the listener following the station in the future. I wouldn't have known about half these stations without these essential downloads and always have a look to see what other artists have played. So, that's how I see that one. Of course if an official deal offer did happen I will have to state our desire to stay as independent as possible

Ok cool. Hopefully there's no problem with it. I agree, it's generally a good thing for the bands to have the live stuff being passed around. There's loads of Oasis sites with so much stuff uploaded and they never seem to get in any trouble. It's great. On the flipside, Im a member on the Stereophonics official forum and they wont even let you post any links to anything there. It's very strict. It's just something to keep in mind
