I've always seen the band as a band you don't just like, but a band that encourages a really devoted following that not a lot of other bands have. Was wondering what does it for you? The songs, the band themselves, the gigs, etc.

Havent been on here in a long time, hope youre all keeping safe and well.
For me, its the words in liams songs. The way he is able to tell us as fans, or maybe just a passenger listening to the car radio the story of his life, from being a boystrus teenage lad and his trouble with a particular lady going off the rails, telling us the hardships of love and lust and all inbetween... if you actually sit down, listen to his earlier demos, and seeing how the lyrics have progressed to the final cuts of St Jude and Falcon as well as the b-sides, he shows raw emotion hidden inbetween great riffs and beats. have any of you actually took the time to listen to ever single song, from the demos, to the lives, the lps and even b-sides and covers!? has anyone picked up on his story of this one girl who drives him insane yet he cant let her go?! The girl who wasnt part of the scene yet it was liam who, the way i interpet it, lead her down the wrong path (if it wasnt for me), and how he feels so much for her that all he wants is for her to get herself sorted (why do you do it). to the time where they were over and he couldnt deal with it, so the mother of this lady peals him off the pavement to sort him out, telling him its not the end of the world, youre not 19 forever! for liam, a song is more than just 3 minutes of a jangly riff, its his life story...
that is why im drawn so much to this band, the songwriter is bloody amazing!
now thats not saying conan, cups and cammy arent good, them too, creating the music that is so often blasting into my lobes, is like the feeling you get as a kid on christmas eve!
All in all, best band around by a country mile!

I've listened to (I'd like to think) all of their officially released songs plus a few demos, but I don't think I've always 'got' the lyrics. For me, it was just buying St. Jude as a 15 year old relatively new to British guitar music. It just blew my mind. For the next year I just fell in love with it and it was pretty much the soundtrack to my life. I still remember listening to it on my paper round with amazement.

i had the same feelings as you Sean, for well over a year, and i was 22 at the time. so to think it can capture a young adult just starting out in the world, and one whos been slogging away for 4-5 years, in the same way is pretty special i think.

i recieved a friend request on myspace from the courteeners, and so i listened to the tracks they had listed on their page, i was blown off my chair by cavorting, and when i fell on the floor i listened more, a 20 year wait was over............... since i first heard them, they have given me immense listening pleasure, and some of the best nights of my life, god bless the band and all who follow them, you can come with me, you should come with me, see you all in ardwick green.

Same experience as the Hatfull, you don't get better debut singles than Cavorting. I had a few bits knocking about on mp3 that I really liked but then once I heard that in July 2007 I was absoloutely addicted. First time I saw them was in Blackburn and they were like nothing I'd seen before, and the rest is history. It isn't hard to see why people who see the Courteeners see them again, and again, and again. I think I know a few who feel the same... They've never ever let me down, there are milestone moments for me that I rank alongside the first time I listened to 'Cavorting' like the the WTYSL single release, the Liverpool Academy weekend 2009 or the release of Falcon and however far it has got now and however far it goes, it's still class to just go back to Cavorting and remember my beginnings with the Courteeners. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv1FSHF5i-AFERGAL KINNEY

as a mancunian it was easier to relate to the songs/lyrics, hearing about middleton and fairfield st etc.. much easier to relate to the tunes, plus the in your face guitar, seeing the following at various gigs, i don't know of another band that gets there gig following yet don't get much air play etc.. selling out apollo for 3 nights speaks volumes of the bands fans plus liam is a cool lad

My sister made a mixtape of her favourite songs and The Opener was track 14. I thought it was the best song I'd ever heard and I looked them up. I've loved them ever since.
Incidentally, it was The Courteeners that got me into The Smiths and The Libs. So danke Liam Fray.

Hi People
My 1st post here , really good to see a forum dedicated to such a top band.
Being of a certain age virtually all of my CD collection stops in the 1990's!! I actually thought that good music was dead and lived happily in my 80s/90's Smiths/Roses...."bubble" until i accidentally "bumped" into the teeners via a Manc band i knew well called The Vortex!!
Not many band since the Smiths for me personally have managed to blend amazing riffs with some killer lyrics that actually speak to people.
Albums are pure quality!! Have only seen them once at Manchester Xmas last year & am heading off too Chester soon for another dose!
This band may well become my new gig obsession after seeing the Mozfather over 25 times!!!
Thanks for a great forum and keep up the good work !

st jude was a present from one of my mates for a birthday and for some reason the songs just instantly connected with me and limas lyrics are amazing they just right into you- so much so that i am going to get some tattooed on me. a lot of people outside the north west don't seem to have heard of them but its the songs and the atmosphere at the gigs- you think that you are the only person that likes that song and of course the gig @ The MEN one of the nights of my life and i shiver every time i just think about it

one final point- whenever you have a bad day you know that if you put ANY courteeners song on- it turns it right around

What made me fall in love with the band is easy - Acryllic. From the moment I heard it I was hooked. I don't think I've been on this forum in years but its bringing back so many great moments seeing The Courteeners. You're right (thesychophant), hearing any song makes my day better. Cannot wait for T in The Park this year just for them
