I was pretty appalled really that they were even thinking of closing BBC6 down, but it has been announced that it is likely to happen, to save costs.
I find it pathetic that costs are always the placed over quality, and a radio station that costs around £7 million a year to run (which is a petty figure when you compare it to some of the other 'programmes' and 'stars' that the BBC throw money at) is being meaninglessly sacrificed purely for the politicians who demand savings and a cut on the "corporation's digital ambitions".
It's what everything is wrong about this country at the moment - money, money, money. Everything is based on pounds, profit and pleasing those people that sit in the boardroom. Why don't they just shut BBC3, which is a poor, pointless, waste of a TV channel. They may as well just let Rupert Murdoch take over now.

Bloody awful isnt it but they have an amazing time working on it. The budget is tiny mind.

Sad thing really, like many who'll be annoyed at it's closure I don't listen to it as much as I should do and whenever I do I thoroughly enjoy it. Top radio station that shouldn't sink really. The good news is, the BBC are putting a shitload of cash, probably from the axefall of 6Music and Asian Network, into "high quality programming" such as increased music output and cultural television, which is a bonus, massive void for good music TV.

whether "good music TV" entails lady gaga documentaries remains to be seen however.

Ha f*ck the bbc, close it all down. Let them live in the real world for a change instead of free loading off the public with its stealth tax. Good riddance. Thats cheered me up a bit

whether "good music TV" entails lady gaga documentaries remains to be seen however. When the BBC says Music TV, they mean Music TV. Be it Jools Holland or Sound. I have faith in the BBC, unlike many on here. Their output is largely top notch and they're one of the few establishments that still don't succumb to American output, see also Channel 4 who would rather put Glee on when they could put money into a large amount of British programmes. I think Jonathan Ross jumping ship will be damaging and I think, being a public service, axing BBC6 Music and Asian Network are also damaging things to do.

Absolutely, the BBC is brilliant really and they make some truly amazing television but I just feel they are making a major mistake in closing BBC6 down.

Spot on definitely a joke Sean. I must admit I'm not really a big listener of Radio any more but do like to catch a session or two when something interesting is on... Anyway... it would be a black day for unsigned and new bands if it did close, it's always been a good source to get an insight on how good the bands real talents & away from their myspace tracks or whatever, you can't hide behind anything in a session?!? As for the BBC's idea to plough the money back into TV... f*ck off! I do have the tv on all night but don't really pay attention because I'm usually busy on my computer or there's nothing worth watching, it's been getting worse even after all the cutbacks and I can't really see it getting much better with further cutbacks! Have I missed something but I'm sure they are more skint than me
