Is this old news? Never heard this before, and thought it deserves its own thread, as its a pretty exciting prospect. "Both Morrissey and Johnny Marr of The Smiths – two of Liam's heroes – are fans of the band. The Courteeners were invited to support Morrissey on tour in America by the man himself, while Johnny Marr has offered to work with Liam in the future." www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/music/Interview--Liam-Fray-of.6088456.jp

Never heard this either, would make sense though. Liam's a massive fan of The Cribs and they shared the bill at XFM so I'm guessing they would've been chatting while there.

Don't think that will ever happen.

To be fair, Marr should just bloody pull his finger out and do something on his own rather than just collaborating all the time. Make it up with Morrisey ffs.

I disagree, Marr adds a lot as a collaborator to the bulk of the bands he's worked with. When he did stuff on his own it wasn't too good. And he has made it up with Moz, they still email and that...what do you want, a reunion tour? I think that would be absoloutely dreadful and a huge disrespect to not only the Smiths but the music both Moz and Marr have made since

Modest Mouse i haven't heard, but, if he's still got it, then why not work on 11 good songs of his own. And lastly, no, i don't want a reunion tour, but come on, you don't want to be in a field in Manchester dancing to The Queen is Dead? As a massive Manchester music fan, that truly would be a dream come to.

I think the last Cribs album with Marr was top, different band to what they were but he's been vital in their progression, they couldn't carry on making that kind of music forever I don't think. As a massive fan of a lot of bands from Manchester I don't think tha would be a dream come true at all, I wouldn't want to be in a field, least of all in Manchester, dancing to the Queen is Dead personally. Morrissey's solo stuff is absoloutely phenomenal, and he plays Smiths tunes in his set, may not be to everyones taste but at least it's still real, you wouldn't get that with a Smiths reform

As for The Smiths gig, it would be a chance for me to see them, and i can put aside it not being real, i'm being greedy. I want The Smiths headlining with The Stone Roses, Joy Division and Oasis from 1994 Supporting. A man can dream....

Was on Radio this morning, XFM like. The dude who does breakfast said when he last spoke to Mr Marr that Marr said he's been talking to Morrissey a bit again, just meeting up form time to time, purely as old friends though, and thats that. I'd love to see Morrissey live, been told how good he is live so would be a treat to see it.

He's 50 now though, so I wouldn't wait too long ;D.

When Liam and Miles did There Is A Light ... at XFM Manchester, Marr's nephew said Liam and Marr were chatting and Marr said how he was honoured.

Would be very interesting to hear Johnny Marr add something new to The Courteeners sound.
Whether it'll ever happen is another matter for now though.
