Just hope the album does enough to enable them to tour a few different places, eg an european jaunt would be good.

florence only got to number 1 after the brit awards but her album was released months ago. all it would take is some prominent slots at the top festivals & they could make it to number 1 at some point this year. I don't think that's very likely, can you see them selling more albums in any other week than the week of release? Florence and The Machine have been knocking around the top of the charts because the album basically got relaunched with a very popular single about a month ago. Number 6 is a good achievement taking all into consideration (lack of record sales at the moment + the fact it was the brit awards recently), I think it would be hard for anybody to compete with the likes of Lady Gaga and that crappy Glee thing when they are massive American acts on massive labels. The tunes are being plugged time and time again on telly (mainly channel 4 crap). Their sort of fans are the people buying in supermarkets and downloading after seeing them on telly, so they'll get good sales all year round. Its a completely different kettle of fish. With the way fans of bands like Courteeners are, I think the bulk of purchases would have been made this week or on pre-order. Maybe a mini-surge after a good festival performance + tour, but nothing too mental. Does anyone know what chart position St. Jude was in its 2nd week? 2nd week #9 3rd week #15

considering the shit state of the chart i reckon number 6 is a good result tbh! i mean they were up gainst marina and the diamonds, who ive herd glowing reviews about (although not realy listened to them myself if im honest) And if ya look at similar bands they have struggled to make the top 10 recently. Stereophonics who had 5 succesive number 1 albums could only manage number 11, + as liam mentioned on soccer am the cribs put out a good album n only just made the top ten. if justice was done the album would be number 1 but hey i think this will set them up for big things two top 10 albums in the bag lets hope for a number 1 they deserve next time ay ?

i dont think number 6 is too bad actually. obviously it deserved higher but its a rare occasion for people to recognise genius when they hear it.

In all honesty I thought Falcon would chart higher than 6. However when you have a look at the 'artists' above The Courteeners you can see why it never reached the top 5. Sunday in HMV there were children asking their parents for Marina & the Diamonds album, it says it all really. A few perfomances on GMTV and Alan Carr Chatty Man and you're destined for success. I suppose another single in the top 40 and another album in the top 10 signals there is consistency though. Well Done to The Courteeners.

i think thats where courteeners let themselves down they never get themselves on the mainstream tv. which may be a concious choice i dunno but it definitley has a impact if you ask me!

That goes back to the point of comparing them to The Cribs....... You never see The Cribs on any Channel 4 tripe, yet they still have top albums, loyal fans and great gigs. They've been on Lettermen a couple of time in America which is a decent tv slot for any UK band having a go across the pond. I'd like to see Courteeners on Jools Holland at some point.
Its a common trend with my favourite bands.....Babyshambles, The Cribs, The Coral and The Courteeners. Look at each one of those bands' latest efforts on record, not bad at all.

"Roots and Echoes" is one of the most underrated albums for a long, long time. It'd be class to see Courteeners on Jools Holland, would get them more noticed as a serious band to those who doubt their position as that already, and would just be good to see.

Slightly better sales for Falcon despite the lower chart position...
Manchester indie rockers The Courteeners returned to the singles chart for the first time since 2008, with You Overdid It Doll debuting at number 28 last week. That song now slides to number 44 (7,085 sales) but the group’s second album, Falcon, fares better, snaring a number six debut (23,667 sales).
Whereas from April 2008...
Also new to the Top 75 this week are: Mancunian bands The Courteeners, in at four with debut set St Jude (22,202 sales).

23,667. just highlights how many people use illegal downloading.

but at the same time highlights that more people are buying music, even if its does happen to be glee and rubbish like that.

Plus The Courteeners are above JLS, Paulo Nutini and Mumford & Sons. All three of them 'artists' are permanently on Radio & Television. It's sold more in the first week than St. Jude, meaning people still care for The Courteeners. I personally think the album will garner more popularity over time.
