Evening all, What are people's favourite opening lyrics to an album? For me it's "There's gonna be some trouble/ A whole house will need rebuilding" from "Now My Heart is Full" on Morrissey's 1994 "Vauxhall and I". Beautiful opener, just sets the tone for the album

not heard that album but it seems a pretty good
"Anticipation has a habit to set you up, for disappointment in evening entertainment..."
suppsoe thats my favourite, very appropriate.
"Proclaim this an emergency, c'mon lets spread a sense of urgency"
thats from absolution. also sets the tone well even if its not the most sublime lyric.

Not sure, eeer. "if you want, i'll tell you a life story, about a man who's at loggerheads with his past all the time" from la's purely because it's appropriate and the first one Luke said from WPSIATWIN, again very appropriate.

lol @ **enter sh*t band here**
"I live my life in the city and theres no easy way out, the days moving just too fast for me"
I know the thread is lyrics but the way I wanna be adored builds up to that opening riff is a class opener, followed by
"I don't have to sell my soul, he's already in me"
mega

I love I Wanna Be Adored!
I think that as a first track and then I Am The Resurection as the closing one, just speaks volumes for how good the Stone Roses were.
My favourite for opening lyrics would be:
- 'I get up, when I'm down. I cant swim but my soul wont drown' - Hindu Times by Oasis of Heathen Chemistry. After a few bad years and change of bad members, they came back with a tweaked style and new attack and that line just says right new era now.....we're back!

Step off the train all alone at dawn, Back into the hole where I was born, The sun in the sky never raised an eye to me

However clichéd or whatever, my favourite come from Frank Turner's I Knew Prufrock Before He Got Famous, opener of second album Poetry of the Deed:
Let's begin at the beginning, we're lovers and we're losers We're heroes and we're pioneers, we're beggars and we're choosers Skirting in the edges of the ideal demographic - We're almost on the guestlist, but we're always stuck in traffic.

I would have to say my fav is what Luke posted from Arctics debut.
A bit of input from Mr Guy Garvey:
"I havnt been myself of late, I havnt slept for several days, But coming home I feel like I, designed these buildings I walk by" - Station Approaching from Leaders of The Free World
"How dare the premier ignore my invitations, he'll have to go, SO too the bunch he luncheons with, its second on my list of things to do" - Starlings from Seldom Seen Kids
"Here come old flattop, he come grooving up slowly He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller He got hair down to his knee Got to be a joker he just do what he please" - Come Together from Abbey Road
Well I, I went to buy myslef a handgun Why you think man, to shoot down everyone So you better go running star But I spent all my money on this cracked out piece of shit called the bass guitar - Jamie T - Brand New Bass Guitar - Panic Prevention
"Are you such a dreamer To put the world to rights? I stay home forever Where two and two always makes a five" - 2+2=5 - Hail to The Thief - Radiohead
"If you're a new band breaking, Be aware cos she won't be far behind, But if you've got no airplay, She won't care and you better move aside" - The Rifles - She Got Standards - No Love Lost.
Panic on the streets of London, Panic on the Streets of Birmingham - The Smiths.
Sorry for going a bit OTT. Just a few good debuts from a few albums I like.
