Not massively impressed with 'You Overdid It, Doll'. Although, perhaps I'm being a bit hasty and after a few more listens it may grow on me. However, I can't seem to escape the fact that this is not the same sound that got me into The Courteeners in 2007. I know what you mean, but I felt that St Jude wasn't the album I wanted from the band that I fell in love with in 2007. Even now I still far prefer listening to the stuff from the Cavorting single, the early XFM sessions and the demos of tunes like If It Wasn't For Me and that. I think this will be a much more solid effort and they're progressing in a good way, not dissapearing up their arses if you get me. As long as the tunes are still there they can dress it up how they want, that's half the fun of it I think

although i like the new track im not entirely sure what the band are trying to achieve by going down the route they are. As for the song they should get the Keyboard to France and just bump up the guitar a bit which would make the song far better and more imposing !!

I'm with 'thischarmingman' keep the keyboard but simmer it down, bring the guitar out more and it's a fucking rock tune, otherwise it's a great tune.

My first impressions were ok, pretty much liked it but I'm going to have a good old listen later on today.

its a branch away from the rock sound of the first record but i wouldn't want a 2nd album full of songs that are practically the same as st. jude
I like the dancey feel to the song - very singeable
gonna be a bit wierd at gigs like if they go from summit like TTHTS or IIWFM straight into this lol
but we will see...

I was also a little dissapointed when St. Jude was released. The raw sound of the demos (especially 'If It Wasn't For Me' and 'Fallowfield Hillbilly) seemed to have dissapeared to some extent. I'll wait and see with the new album but I'm very optimistic for tracks such as 'The Opener', 'Sycophant', 'Good Times Are Calling', and 'Will It Be This Way Forever'. However, the two tracks we've had final versions of so far ('Cross My Heart...' and 'You Overdid It, Doll') have not particularly grabbed me. Also, I'm not sure if its been mentioned yet but the cover of the single is absolutely awful. I really liked the covers for Acyrlic, Cavorting, WTYSL and would have prefered something along those lines.

Agreed, the cover is crap, the first 4 singles were ace, then it's just gone downhill other than 'Cross My Heart...'
