ahhh, yeah ok fair enough. I never studied it, just read it! Thats partly why I didn't take english literature for a level, hate having to analyse things and that!

Education doesn't let you enjoy things for what they are anymore, you have to study the pointless and meaningless depths of a book, rather than enjoy reading it for the sheer fact that it is a good book. Analysing things that even the author probably didn't notice, stupid things that have no impact on the outcome of the story, or on how you feel at the end of it.

Only did 6 months of combined english at A-level but what seemd to be a good book (can't remember the title) just ended up annoying me, studying the 'imaginary' body language of the characters. They are on a book, how the hell do they have body language??

well yeah, thats the issue, you get taught to disregard the writers true intentions.

I don't agree with any of this. As a literature student ( ) I think the subject only teaches you to appreciate teh text more. Ok, yes at times, there are things that I doubt the author intended. But when it comes to some old texts and poetry in particular, there are often hidden meanings, which to me, make the poem or book or whatever seem much more intellectual or interesting.
