Saw this on the La's forum, and couldn't resist starting one here ;D For the record, people like Morrissey and Bono don't count, when I say musical geniuses, I mean musical geniuses, not lyrical wordsmiths etc etc... All a matter of opinion Here I go anyway (no particular order): Lee Mavers Johnny Marr Brian Wilson John Lennon Bo Diddley and that wasn't exactly easy was torn between McCartney/ Diddley/ Fats for the last one, not happy to leave 2 of them out EDIT: f*ck the thing about no Bono etc etc, whoever you consider to be musically genius just throw them in there, but mine still don't change

I had to think long and hard about this and tried to stick to Ant's initial post when choosing them, I think they all were/are good all rounders.
Maybe Pete was a bit of a biased choice, in no particular order:
Joe Strummer Pete Townshend Pete Doherty Freddie Mercury Buddy Holly
So many to choose from and was hard to leave out Wilson, Lennon etc

The La's are magic, The La's are my life, The La's saved my life, The La's are something new that had never been heard before, they understood what music should really sound like and how is should be made, I love Lee Mavers.

musical genius is one hefty statement, you'd have to include people like beethoven who arguably invented certain types of music and all that jazz... people like noel gallagher, alex turner and ian brown are legends but I wouldn't say they are "genius' ", even Noel would agree as im sure hes been quoted as being embarassed when called a guitar god or whatever....... for me its near impossible but here goes: 1. John Lennon/Paul McCartney (they have to be together surely?) 2. Jimi Hendrix 3. Bob Dylan 4. Beethoven or insert your own classical composer, maybe mozart 5. Bob Marley I nearly put in Michael Jackson, rip away but he's easily the genius of pop, nobody comes close in that genre

I was going to put Lennon and Mac both in same bracket, and why not Maybe it is over used, all again, a matter of opinion. For the reasons you gave, I included Bo Diddley, because he started his own genre, he started his own rock n roll blues, and has paved way for so many more, including Fats Domino, which was why I picked Bo ahead of him.
