very good post from ben, i dont think anyone matches his lyrics, not even liam! His lyrics are poor and on the verge of laughable. 'This lad at the side, drinking his Smirnoff Ice' 'The tramp with the trampoline under his arm' 'What came first, the chicken or the dickhead?' (LOL) They are just an NME band, nothing more.

To be fair Ste, you have picked out a few crappy lyrics from a million and one amazing lines haven't you 'the band are fucking wank and I'm not having a nice time!'

Well it would take too long to type out the entire 1st album. However true his lyrics are to him, they are nothing special at all, sounds like he's singing someones diary entry... They were on MTV the other night with that Zane and Alex was trying to put on some kind of fake accent, extended his vowels and that, moron.

Nah Alex Turner's lyrics are top, I'd be hard pressed to tell anyone somebody better than him at the moment. To be fair to him, the one's you picked out might not make sense to you but they might to him because he did say in an interview the lyrics were more cryptic. So they probably do have meaning somehow. The way he depicts situations you've seen or been through is what makes him special in my opinion. It's something that Liam does too but in a different way and it's brilliant Can't wait for a UK tour from them now.

What makes good lyrics then ste? not every line in a song has to be 'amazing', I don't think alex turner gives a shit if nobody knows what he's on about, he very rarely explains what he's writing about
by your logic loads of bands have laughable lyrics then

everyone keeps bumming that what came first lyric n its not reli something that stood out for me. seemed to be there to sound clever rather than actually be clever. yeah fully agree with this its a funny but defo not one of the best if you listen over and over the lyrics aren't as 'catchy' as in the other albums which is another reason imo why people don't like it usually a monkeys tune grabs you straight away where as the new uns are definately growers Dangerous animals and dance little liar are starting to become my favourites and I never would have said that on first listen 'I heard the truth was built to bend a mechanism to suspend the guilt is what you will require and still you've got to dance little liar'

I am also quite shocked about how much people love the line "what came first the chicken or the dick head". I dont think it is up there with the best pieces of word play on the album at all. It does stick out in the memory though so that is probably why many people are mentioning it. very good post from ben, i dont think anyone matches his lyrics, not even liam! Do you think they talk highly of the Beatles? They probably do, but would they be an NME band? What do you mean by just an nme band? And regarding his lyrics being poor and laughable. Ste come on. Who are better lyricists in your opinion then?

Yeah, Alex is the best lyricist of the last few years without doubt, despite how split people are on his music.

"wont you take me away to where the grass is green and the air is clean I want to see that face the one that........."
Now ste. These are your lyrics form your band. The first song that comes onto your myspace. Compare your lyrics to Mr Turner. You have said Alex's lyrics are laughable but.........
Im not having a go at yours at all. That is not what I am doing. Just seeing how you rate what you guys have written to what alex writes.

NME gave their newie 7/10. They gave Calvin Harris' new one 7/10. NME don't love them cos' if they did they would've given 8 or 9.

The 1st album was basically just social commentary, which anyone can do AND was done alot better by people like Jarvis Cocker...

sounds a bit like an oasis song actually, similar to take me away lyrics? only a bit though
the new album is good but I do think that josh homme has had a wee bit too much of an influence on it in some of the tunes, more down to the effects used, still class though

Richard is a fan tho, which is why he uses the line 'A Certain Romance' in one of his songs. I did used to like them, but all this fake accent and stuff (Chungs fault) has annoyed me which is maybe why i'm being so cruel... I will take back part of what I said, his lyrics arn't laughable, just not as good as what everyone says... That's more accurate...
