I know what you mean about judging an album too early as quite a lot of albums are growers.
It just didn't make me sit up or think 'this is a cracking song' but I will give it another chance. Don't get me wrong I like it when bands progress with each album but I do think their debut was better (from first listen)
BTW I hardly ever listen to the radio!

Based on what others have said I do think it'll be a grower. I already love half but am unsure about the others. I think the first album will be right up there in history with the classic albums of the past because it is just that good and I can't see another album bettering it in the next ten years or so. The problem with them though is similar to the Fray. The Fray's first album was a masterpiece and the second album despite it being good wasn't as good as the first meaning people didn't like them as much. Still sounds a quality album though.

What's up with that haha. It's genius, the lyrics and the music and everything. I caught them live when I was in America

meh in hindsight, the first album was just a stunning example of piano led pop wasnt it. very little variety but! i still really enjoy a listen to the full album.

I saw the boys in Brixton last night. The support act was a treat. We had Mr Dave Grohl on drums, Josh Homme on vocals and guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboard as well as Alain Johannes. That is a support consisting of Foo Fighters/Nirvana, Queens of the stone age/Eagles of Death Metal and Led Zeppelin. Them Crooked Vultures were immense. Great sound and got the crowd started in the right way. If that is your support, you want to hope the main act step up. And they did.
That was my 6th time seeing the Arctics and it was the most accomplished I have ever seen them. They looked so comfortable with what they were doing and at complete ease. It was like I was witnessing the moment when they went from a top band to one that is going to leave a massive legacy.
They played a varied set. Starting off with Cornerstone I think I recall, and then jumped into Red Right Hand. They played quite a few from FWN along with IBULGOTD and Still Take You Home (which is still one of my fav tracks of theirs) from the first album.
Alex Turner’s lyrics really are outstanding. There are not many people in music that can rival is wordsmanship.
At first I was not convinced with all the album. Like dontask says it is a grower. I didn’t love crying lighning at first, but again, it grew on me and I love it now. I think that will be the case with the whole album. It is exciting. I don’t know how people find it dull?
It will always split their fans. And they seem absolutely fine with that. Most bands would try to stick with the same format to keep their fan base. You can tell the arctics are so comfortable with what they are doing they don’t care. They have a plan and that plan is working out. Last night was a great gig.

I'll get this out of the way.
I heard Crying Lightning on radio this morning and for some reason it has grown on me, so maybe just maybe there is hope for the rest of the album, I'll keep trying.

That's it, it's the music in the new album which I don't like, the lyrics are great, I mean 'what came first the chicken or the dickhead?' that's the funniest lyric I've ever heard man Alex Turner is a genius lyricist and his lyrics get better through the albums, things like 'a mecca dabber or a betting pencil' and thee lyrics in 'fake tales...' just cannot be matched.

Dead right there, at first I just didn't like it, maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind to listen to anything that day??? I've been playing it today and guess what... yep, it's growing on me... errr... can't remember the song titles though so I can't say much more Like Ant said the lyrics are great "what came first the chicken or the dickhead?" haha magic! I didn't like the 'music' either but after 4 plays it really is fucking excellent, to put it blunt! Glad I went back to it now & it'll be my next purchase...errr yeah I did DL it first

I love that lyric because it was first tune on album I listened to and was walking to chippy and then I heard it and burst out laughing in street
